  4. WHO WAS EDOM? GENESIS 25:29-30 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. For you have said in your heart: ‘ I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.

  9. ESAU DECEIVED: “ If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night— Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings? “ Oh, how Esau shall be searched out!How his hidden treasures shall be sought after! All the men in your confederacy Shall force you to the border; The men at peace with you Shall deceive you and prevail against you. Those who eat your bread shall lay a trap for you. No one is aware of it.

  11. WHY IS THE LORD AGAINST EDOM? “ For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever. In the day that you stood on the other side— In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem— Even you were as one of them. “ But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress You should not have entered the gate of My people In the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should not have gazed on their affliction In the day of their calamity, Nor laid hands on their substance In the day of their calamity. You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.

  12. DAY OF THE LORD “ For the day of the LORD upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head. For as you drank on My holy mountain, So shall all the nations drink continually; Yes, they shall drink, and swallow, And they shall be as though they had never been.

  13. DELIVERANCE FROM ZION “ But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau,” For the LORD has spoken.

  14. ISRAEL TAKES POSSESSION The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possessGilead. And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South. Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.

  15. OTHER SCRIPTURE AGAINST EDOM PSALM 108:10-13 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom? Will not you, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts? Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies. LAMENTATIONS 4:21-22 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwell in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto you: you shall be drunken (Babylon the Harlot—Revelation & Isaiah), and shall make yourself naked (Isaiah 47:1). The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry you away into captivity: he will visit your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover your sins. ZECHARIAH 2:7-8 “Come, Zion! Escape, you who live in Daughter Babylon!” For this is what the LORD Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you —for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye— I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me.

EDOM’S DESTRUCTION: EZEKIEL 25:12-14 Thus says the Lord GOD; Because that Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them; Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman (Arabia); and they of Dedan (Arabia) shall fall by the sword. And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, says the Lord GOD. JOEL 3:19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation (Forever). JEREMIAH 49:7-19 Concerning Edom, thus says the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan (Arabia); for I will bring thecalamity of Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him. If grape gatherers come to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough. But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbors, and he is not. Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me. For thus says the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and are you he that shall altogether go unpunished? you shall not go unpunished, but thou shall surely drink of it. For I have sworn by myself, says the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a desolation (Isaiah 63:1), a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.

MALACHI 3:1-14 1The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi. I have loved you, says the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein have you loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. Whereas Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation for ever.

SEIR MADE DESOLATE EZEKIEL 35:1-15 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set your face against mount Seir (Edom), and prophesy against it, And say unto it, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir (Edom), I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against you, and I will make you most desolate. I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate, and you shall know that I am the LORD. Because you have had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end: Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will prepare you unto blood, and blood shall pursue you: sith you have not hated blood, even blood shall pursue you. Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passes out and him that returns. And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in your hills, and in your valleys, and in all your rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword. I will make you perpetual desolations, and your cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Because you have said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there: Therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will even do according to my anger, and according to my envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged you. And thou shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. Thus with your mouth you have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them. Thus says the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoice, I will make you desolate. As you did rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto you: you shall be desolate, O mount Seir (Edom), and all Idumea (Arabia), even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

  20. STREAMS OF PITCH ISAIAH 34:6-10For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom. The wild oxen shall come down with them, And the young bulls with the mighty bulls; Their land shall be soaked with blood, And their dust saturated with fatness.” For it isthe day of the LORD’s vengeance, The year of recompense for the cause of Zion. Its streams shall be turned into pitch (OIL), And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch (OIL). It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever.
