  1. Hyperlink is a function that allows putting links in a document that links the user to another section of that document or to an internet site for reference purposes. If this were a Word document rather than a PowerPoint document, then clicking on “document” above will take the user to “Linking within a document” below. In PowerPoint the links are to other slides rather than to a word in a slide’s text. This is covered in PowerPoint. The Hyperlink word is underlined similar to a web site link. To activate the link, hold down the control key and click the Hyperlink word. Hyperlink Within Document 1 Linking within a document 1. Decide where you want to go when clicking on a link. 2. Highlight the name of the section if there is one, or highlight the first word in the paragraph to link to, e.g., “Linking within a document.” The bookmark text cannot have spaces, it must be one word Also the word chosen must be more that one one character. 3. Open Insert Bookmark. Paste this ito the space for the name of the bookmark in the window tht appears. If you choose, you may now give the bookmark a title like “DocumentLink” that represents the subject of the link better and click OK. 4. Highlight the linking word that when clicked, take the user to the Bookmark just created.

Highlight the first word or couple of words of the location to be linked to in this case “Linking with in a document .” A Hyperlink word can be created for the sole purpose of linking and placed in alphabetical order at the beginning or end of the document being created. In this case, highlight the word just created. To create the Hyperlink,Click on Insert/Hyperlink. An Insert Hyperlink window appears. Go to next Slide

  3. 6. The Bookmark created, in this case “DocumentLink” appears beneath the word bookmark 7. Click the Bookmark you want to go to, in this case “DocumentLink” and then click OK. The link is now established. If there is more than one Bookmark, all will appear. Hyperlink Within Document 3

  4. Hyperlink to the Internet 1 • A link connecting to a web page can be made as well. In this case the hyperlink word contains the url of the web page desires. • Highlight the linking word(s), let’s Metropolitan State University • Click Insert/Hyperlink • There are four choices in the far left sidebar: • Existing file or web page – this is the one to choose • Place in this document – this was used for the document link • Create new docment – creates new file to be used as destination • E-mail Address – This enables the use of an email address as a link.

In the “Place in this document,” a destination within the open document is chosen. In the case of the Existing file or web page, the following choices are available. The choices are: • Current Folder – displays folders in the hard drive • Browsed Files – displays web pages that have been accessed • Recent Files – displays recently opened files.

In the “Place in this document,” a destination within the open document is chosen. In the case of the Existing file or web page, the following choices are available. In the example I use Metrostate’s Web page url. Since this is PowerPoint the user must be in Slide Show mode for the link to work. When the cursor is moved over the link and a pointing finger is displayed , just click the left mouse button to activate the link • When using Word, highlight the link that was created and hold the Control key down. When the pointing finger is displayed, click the left mouse button to activate the link.
