Fuses • Prototype fuses received 06/22/2001 • Spec. • L: 5.8 mm • W: 2.0 mm • H: 4.2 mm (including legs) • 5 random samples • L: 5.82 +/- 0.03 mm • W: 2.4 +/- 0.17 mm • H: 4.33 +/- 0.09 mm • With new fuse box prototype: • Length: OK • Width: OK • Height: A little hard to squeeze in. Can it be smaller? Or, can we get another 1mm for fuse box?

  3. New Fuse Box Prototype • Dimension changes from previous prototype: • Height (z): 4x2mm --> 5.5x2mm (+3 mm) • Length (): 19mm --> 20.15 mm (+1.15 mm) • Width (r): type dependent, no change

Remaining Design Issues • Fuse box mounting • Free hanging from the end of HV kapton • Risk in damaging kapton. • A rigid mounting • Require interaction with space frame or cooling plate & snake cable... • Fuse box grounding • From fuse box to tension plate • Require interaction with snake cable & cooling plate ... • Solder soft wire between HV kapton ground shield and tension plate. • May affect kapton flexibility

Fuse Box Components • Duke • FR-4 casing* • FR-4 printed circuit film* • 1812 size 1nF filter capacitors (same as module capacitor) • 1206 size 1-2k filter resistors • Truncated Molex 2759 female terminal • Stycast potting glue for coating • Furon K102, 0.001” Kapton + 0.0015” Acrylic adhesive tape • 2-56 Nylon screw • Penn/CERN/Russia(?) • Habia HFI 150 minicoax HV cable (?) • Connector for minicoax to PPB1 • Fuses* * custom made components

  7. Production Scheme • Once design is finalized • ~ 2 month for part collection & fabrication. Including: • Machining of FR-4 casing • Fabrication of printed circuit • ~ 4 month for assembly • Based on 200 fuse boxes with 2.5 boxes/person/day • Could we send this out? (Krakow?)

  8. Summary • A prototype fuse box has been assembled with the prototype fuses. No obvious dimensional problem. • Fuse box mounting and grounding schemes are yet to be addressed • When design is finalized. Production is estimated to take ~ 6 month
