VMS Data used solely for compliance purposes. • Article 26.6 of the NAFO Conservation and Enforcement Measures: … The Secretariat shall make available in a summary form to the Scientific Council following specific requests from the Fisheries Commission to the Scientific Council to determine fishing effort on and around vulnerable habitats and for any other purpose.   17. Current LIMITATIONS • VMS Catch reports (COE-COX) unreliable. Catch reports transmitted at the end of the fishing trip (2 weeks to 3 months) • New requirement in 2010. Current LIMITATIONS • NAFO VMS data confined in the NAFO Regulatory Area, i.e. international waters of the NAFO Convention Area. • It is estimated that only 10% of the fish catches in the NAFO Convention Area are in the Regulatory Area. • 90% of the fish catches are caught within the jurisdiction of the Coastal States, i.e. within 200-mile EEZ.
