  2. A Modernist Master Rooted in Tradition The Foundation Manu Parekh was born in Ahmedabad in 1939. He studied at the well known Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai and finished the course in 1962. In his work he joins true-to-life detail with non literal form - he lays paint on thickly plus uses loud bursting colour. Parekh grew up surrounded by Calcutta's busy art world, village storytelling art and the fine detail of miniature painting.
