BICAMS Components • Information processing speed • Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) • Verbal memory (immediate recall) • California Verbal Learning Test-II (CVLT-II)(first 5 recall trials) • Visual memory (immediate recall) • Brief Visuospatial Memory Test Revised (BVMT-R) (first 3 recall trials) These 3 tests can be completed in a total of 15 minutes without specialized equipment/assessor training Langdon DW, et al. Take-Home Messages • Neither patients’ self-reports nor clinicians’ impressions are sufficient to gauge patients’ cognitive functioning • Assessment of cognitive functioning is an important element of baseline and ongoing assessment, and it may be necessary to schedule additional visits specifically for this purpose • Cognitive functioning is not a single construct and patient functioning is highly individualized; therefore, testing 1 domain does not provide adequate information. 15 minutes is better than 5
