  2. Typology and how to handle individuals in training Purpose One of the most important conditions for a successful meeting, presentation or training session is to accept other persons for what they are instead of criticising them. In practice, this can be very difficult. 1 The aggressive type Stay quiet. Don’t get involved. Stop him monopolising. Let the group “defeat “ him. 2 The positive type A great help in discussion. Let him contribute. Invite him into discussion. Use him frequently. 3 The know-all type Let the group deal with his statements and “theories”. 4 The talkative type Interrupt him tactfully. Limit his continuous flow of words and speaking time. 5 The shy type Ask him simple questions. Increase his self-confidence. Give credit when possible. 6 The uncooperative type Play on his ambitions. Recognise his knowledge and experience and use them. 7 The thick-skinned uninterested type Ask him about work. Get him to give examples from his field of interest. 8 The highbrow type Don’t criticize. Use the “yes, but” technique. 9 The persistent type He tries to trap you. Pass his questions back to the group.
