  3. NDIIPP Access Project - 3 • All You Need to Start: • - Multiple Tag/Value Records (Mark-up Language– XML MODS) OR • - Multiple Rows/Columns (Spreadsheet – XLS) • How Will Your Data Fit? • - Tag Cloud, Map, List, Faceted Browse, Timeline, Single-Collection Search

NDIIPP Access Project - 4 • Focus is put on the most commonly used elements. • The elements that provide key access points such as dates and locations should be as clear as possible so that the data is the most accurate and consistent for presentations. • The better the data can be, the better the results.

  7. NDIIPP Access Project - 7 Import Requirements (Starting Set): • Browse a directory and choose file to import. • Add a collection by pointing to a URL. (example file formats: rectangular spreadsheet, XML MODS, ContentDM) • Add metadata about the collection itself. This metadata includes: Organization, Archive, Size, Subjects, Content, Languages, Restrictions

NDIIPP Access Project - 8 Display Requirements (Starting Set): • Show/hide data fields • Reorder data fields • Modify label names • Specify page elements and lenses of the data (e.g. tag cloud, facet browse, etc) • Implement the Timeline feature • Implement the Maps feature • Publish collection in Recollection when complete

Coming in next phase(s) • Policy control (for example to restrict access to current subscribers) • Dynamic collections (updates from source data without need for manual refresh) • Extensible metadata transforms (to deal with specialized formats and conventions) • Ability to cross-reference metadata within an institution’s collections • Customized appearance • Schema-driven import for arbitrary XML 12
