What is the Mitad Del Mundo you ask? • La Mitad Del Mundo translated into English means “middle of the world” • La Mitad Del Mundo is a 30 meter tall monument built between 1979 and 1982 • It is suppose to be positioned on the Equator that is how it got its name “middle of the world” even though it is not exactly on the equator it is actually 240 meters to the North of the marked line.

La Mitad Del Mundo: an unique and indigenous place • You can find this place in Quito, Ecuador • This place has tourist attractions such as The Museo Etnográfico Mitad del Mundo this attraction is a museum about anthropology and other different sciences of Ecuador • Another tourist interest is named Ciudad Mitad del Mundo the translation is “Middle Of The World City” it is similar to a Spanish colonial town where you can shop, and explore many other cultural things.

  4. History To this very day the marking of the line dividing the Northern and Southern hemispheres can correctly be traced to the first Geodestic mission. A French expedition led by Louis Godin, Pierre Bouguer, and Charles Marie de la Condamine. Later in the present the equator was discovered by measurements made by the French and was finally identified with as monument.

Tours • To get into La Mitad Del Mundo you must pay a fee of two dollars • The Quitsato Project, tucked inside a restaurant site in between the Mitad del Mundo and the Inti-Ñan Solar Museum focuses on cultural identity, archaeology and astronomy • It is typically hot and dry • open 9a.m. - 6.p.m. every day Entry $2 for adults, $1 for children/OAPs.  $1.50 for parking.  Ethnographic Museum $3.  Planetarium $1.50.
