  2. Introversion • the state of or tendency toward being wholly or predominantly concerned with and interested in one's own mental life – Carl Jung

  3. Traits of Introverts • Enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people • Enjoy interactions with close friends. • Trust is usually an issue of significance • They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time • like to observe situations before they participate • especially observed in developing children and adolescents • They are more analytical before speaking • Introverts are easily overwhelmed by too much stimulation from social gatherings and engagement

  4. Step One • Get Laid off • Spend next 24-48 hours curled in fetal position

  5. Step Two • Pull up socks • Update resume • Update profile on all job search sites • Begin searching in earnest • Realize there are no jobs for your specialty in Greater San Diego area • Send out bulk email to all LinkedIn contacts announcing you are out of work

  6. Step Three • Help a friend who’s start up is minimally funded and can’t pay you. • Look around the incubator and realize there are small companies that could use your skill but not hire a full time specialist. • Start a consulting company • How do you get the word out?

  7. First get a web site

  8. Get on Twitter

  9. Use LinkedIn

  10. Start a blog, preferably on your business page

  11. Don’t forget Facebook • You never know who might know some one

  12. Link it all together All updates go to all platforms. Blog -> LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook Update all your statuses frequently.

  13. Status • Three months in, I have one large client • I am preparing a pitch for funding a company with VC’s I know • I have used LinkedIn to get a serial entrepreneur mentor. • It takes time – stretch your comfort level, but not too much.

The Best Business Book I Have Ever Read • The Generals – Thomas Ricks • A goal does not equal an operational plan to accomplish the goal • In stressful situations, do not regress to your level of competence • Don’t plan to fight the next war, plan to have a group of skills that foster adaptable thinking • When choosing to hire people, consider what the actual skills need for the job are. The best qualified person, may not be the best fit. • Have a model in place where you can relieve someone from a position of responsibility and still have a function for them in your organization. Relief from command should not equal career death.
