Fife Council Zero Waste Strategy and The Drivers for Change • Population = 360,000, Households = 167,000 • Fife Council manages 246,136 tonnes of waste each year • Progressively increasing recycling performance • 2% in 2000/01 • 45.3% in 2009/10 • Fife Council still landfills 134,636 tonnes of waste each year • Fife has signed up to Zero Waste to landfill by 2020. • Landfill Allowance Scheme, Landfill Tax Escalator, Scottish Government Zero Waste targets. Campaign outcomes - Fife residents informed, understand and engage with the new services. Campaign goals - Increase in recycling, increase in participation, smooth transition, community links. Potential Outcomes 2012/2013 Option 2 Most successful scheme Garden/Food Waste/ Fortnightly/240 litre Plastic and Cans/4 weekly/240 litre Paper and cardboard/4 weekly/240 litre Landfill bin/Fortnightly/140 litre Projected increase in recycling rates by 2012/2013 assuming Markinch results replicated Fife wide 53.99%.
