  1. Honours Options ChoiceHISTORY

  2. Background • NOT first-come first-served. Allocation on courses which are oversubscribed is random, but will comply with DPTs.

  3. You’ll be sent a link by email. When you follow that link, you’ll need to log into EASE.

  4. In most cases, the form will know: • Who you are • Which degree you are on • Which year you are going into

  5. If your degree is wrong, please contact the Student Support Office and let them know!

  6. Please fill in your contact details. Most likely we will contact you via your University email address, so please check it regularly.

  7. VERY IMPORTANT If you fail to provide reserve choices and you aren’t allocated your first choice, we will have no choice but to allocate you randomly to another course!

  8. You will have to tick the box to say you understand this message before you can proceed.

  9. If you don’t provide a full set of reserves, this does NOT increase your likelihood of getting your first choice!!

  10. If you are planning a year abroad (non-compulsory), fill in this part of the form. Wherever possible, fill in your choices too, just in-case your year abroad falls through.

  11. Read ALL instructions carefully!!! The form will not check that your options are suitable for your degree.

  12. Each degree will have a set of notes. They give you more details about what courses you can pick for your degree. They also tell you where to apply for courses in Classics and/or Archaeology if relevant. Read them thoroughly.

  13. Your degree might require you to take courses from a particular set of courses. Clicking on the link will show you a list of those courses.

  14. Your form might look a bit different from this but generally you’ll have a place to fill in Semester 1, Semester 2 and full year courses (where relevant).

  15. Information about the courses is available by clicking on this link. This includes the latest year’s handbooks and this year’s description, timetable and assessment details.

  16. It also gives information about how many students have currently selected this course. Remember that classes have limited sizes!

  17. This information will allow you to see how likely it is that you will get a particular course.

  18. We cannot guarantee you’ll get your first choice (although we will do what we can!) so please ensure you provide 3 reserve choices wherever possible!

  19. We also strongly recommend that you select AT LEAST ONE UNDERSUBSCRIBED COURSE as a first or reserve choice.

  20. Press the Accept information button when you are done.

  21. You should get a summary screen which gives you the options you have picked. Print it out or copy it into a Word document and save it somewhere safe.

  22. You can resubmit the form as often as you like before the deadline!

  23. All of the pages in the form have a ‘Help & Assistance’ box which includes information on how to get technical help (please follow the instructions carefully) and also gives another link to the course information. Queries about your degree structure should be discussed with your Personal Tutor OR the Student Support Office! You can find out more about the structure of your degree in the DRPS.http://www.drps.ed.ac.uk/

  24. Joint language programme with compulsory year abroad? 3rd year students get a different type of form. Fill in details about your year abroad instead.

  25. Need help? • Questions about the DPTs and your degree: ASK YOUR PERSONAL TUTOR • Degree wrong: Please update with the student support office:hca-sso@ed.ac.uk • Technical problems with form: hca-web@ed.ac.uk
