  1. Is your website tough enough?

  2. What is Toughtest? Toughtest is an Online Website Testing Community. We offer the opportunity for people to make money and website developers to save time and reduce costs outsourcing their website testing processes to a massive audience.

  3. The problem... Toughtest is an

  4. The problem... In a recent project at the Technical University of Denmark, Rolf Molich and Christian Gram collected data from 50 teams of students who conducted usability tests of commercial websites as part of a user interface design class. The students tested nine large public Danish websites and after rating the usability problems for severity, the study found that each site had an average of: • 29 cosmetic problems • 20 serious usability problems • 11 usability catastrophes! ...All as a result of the sites being too massive to thoroughly test

  5. The solution! Toughtest will enable developers to take their testing out of the company walls and get an‘out of the box’ and non technical review of their websites at a fraction of the time and cost compared to in-house testing budgets. Developers that choose to have their websites Toughtested will be able to launch their sitestwice as fast and be safe in the knowledge it is running 100% efficiently.

  6. Sounds good! So how is it different? Toughtest is different from any other website testing service in that it is more efficient, easier to use, cost effective and eventually, home to a larger community. Toughtestwill enable developers to produce higher quality work, save valuable time and most importantly, increase profit margins.

  7. Who will use Toughtest? Toughtest can be used by literally anybody! The users of Toughtest will be split into two categories: • The Testers • The Testees

  8. User group #1: The Testers The beauty of Toughtest is anybody can sign up and earn money from the system. Testers can be anyone, from young to old, Kids to Grannys, online shopping addicts, website experts or just regular Joes. People from all walks of life have the opportunity to sign up to Toughtest, earn money and add to a massive community. The wider variety of testers means Toughtest can provide more varied and specific tests. The quality of the testers reviews will be analysed and enable them to earn more money with better, more in depth tests.

  9. User group #2: The Testees The testees can be website developers, companies, freelancers, one man bands and basically anyone who develops a website. It is most useful for developers who want to save time, money or simply lack the staff to test their websites to a necessary high standard.

  10. How it works Toughtest is built upon a traditional tier/credits based system, with each tester having a user profile with experience points and a ranking.

  11. How it works For testers, there are 5 steps: • Potential testers go to the website, and sign up • They are required to fill out their profile, containing details such as profession, amount of experience, hardware and software used, tasks they most frequently do on the internet and lots of in depth stuff. • Once signed up, it is a case of reading some instructions and then getting to work on their first test! • They can choose to test one of the free evaluation websites or request to be part of a testing campaign on a paid test. • After testing, credits are added to their account (If testing on a paid project) and ranking and XP points are added to their profile.

  12. How it works For testees, there are just 6 main steps: • Developers go to the website and sign up • They are also required to fill out their profile, in the same way testers do. • Once set up with their account, they can submit their first testing website for review. • The test requirements can be clearly set 5. The test job is published and you wait until testers apply. 6. Choose the test candidates and await the results

  13. Setup costs The initial setup costs are the biggest factor in this projects expenditure. Once the website has been built it will be a very cheap service to run, as it will be web based and require only a few members of staff to make sure it runs and operates smoothly. The initial setup costs are as follows: • World beating website, branding and interface design - £1500 • Social network based website with user profiles and ranking system -£1000 • Testing environment build and integration into the website - £2000 • Online payment processing systems and implementation - £500 • High quality hosting and staff to run the site smoothly - £300 a year • Advertising campaign and SEO - £100 per month for the first 12 months Total: Approx £6500 (In its first year) Subsequent running costs: Approx £2000 a year and becoming less as the system is refined and advertsing campaign is downsized. (This fiqure is based on a quote from a local website development company, Channel Computing of Penryn, December 2011)

  14. Revenue There are 3 main facts to know about how Toughtest generates its revenue: 1. The testers will receive money as credits 2. Each credit amounts to just under a pound(Around £0.90) 3. Toughtest receives a percentage value (Around 10%) of every test that is conducted through the website.

  15. Revenue example To better explain how it works, here is an example: • A testing project has been submitted and has a budget of £50 and requires 10 testers. • The budget is split across the 10 testers. • In this case, each tester will receive 5 credits each, equalling around £4.50 in real money. • From this project, Toughtest has earnt £5 by taking 10% from every test. Toughtest has generated this profit with doing nothing other than providing the environment and service to the participants

  16. Some notes on credits... • Credits can only be withdrawn when a users balance equals certain amounts (£10.00, £20.00, £50.00 etc). This will prevent people signing up, not testing properlyand taking the money. • Credits can also be used to fundwebsite testing projects, meaning developers can potentially get websites tested for free providing they do enough tests themselves.

  17. Other methods of generating revenue Because of its large user base and daily website visits, Toughtest will also be able generate revenue by making use of adverts placed on the website and links with related online services.

  18. Return of investment Realistically, the project will not make much money in it’s first year whilst the user base is is growing and the word is spread. An advertising budget of £100 per month will help generate transactions and after the initial business loan is repayed the running costs will be very low meaning the company will start to generate serious profit after a couple of years.

  19. Income projection Toughtest will require alarge user base to achieveits revenue, much like Facebook. While it is foolhardy to compare the business to the most powerful example of social networking at the moment, it is worth looking into Facebooks beginnings to see the possibilities in regards to revenue...

  20. Income projection Facebook was launched to the public on September 26, 2006. As you can see from this data, (Source: Facebook) Facebook hit the 100 million user mark around 2 years later in August 2008.

  21. Income projection Facebooks monthly growth in this period was 178%, which implies growth is strongest in its first two years and bodes well for our prospects. Again, it is useless to expect the same amount of growth, but if we were to anticipate a modest signup of around 200,000 users in the first two years (Less than a quarter that of Facebooks), we would need each user to spend just £1 each for Toughtest to generate £20,000 (by taking 10% of transactions) in its first two years. Taking off running costs and the initial budget outlay this would mean Toughtest is poised to generate, in its first two years, a profit of around £10,000.

  22. Distribution The main avenues through which Toughtest will be sold and advertised are: • Online advertising • Possible links with website related services, I.e links with Hosting companies, part of a hosting package.

  23. Distribution That’s it! Thank you for listening and your questions are welcomed.
