HEAL Evaluation • PHRED Program contracted by MHP to conduct a process and outcome evaluation of the HEAL Action Plan. • Developed 5 logic models – one overall logic model, and one for each of the four key strategies in the action plan. • Macro – level evaluation plan; an ecological approach that takes into consideration intrapersonal factors, interpersonal processes or primary groups, institutional factors, community factors and public policy. • 7 evaluation questions that examine awareness, polices, opportunities, access, knowledge, attitudes and behaviour • Process evaluation – examines barriers and facilitators to the Action Plan’s implementation. • Development of 2 RRFSS Modules – awareness of the action plan’s key messages, and self-reported waistline • Outcome evaluation – have identified a series of outcome indicators, and started baseline data analysis using existing data sources – e.g. CCHS cycle 2.2 • PHRED/U of T

  10. Qualifications of Public Health Nutritionists • Health Protection and Promotion Act: requires that health dept employ public health nutritionists, and the regulation under the act defines qualifications required. • Gold standard – Clause A – (which was met by U of T MHSc) – provided training for public health employment. • Other clauses created for flexibility (e.g. Clause B) • Couldn’t define all the possibilities – clause was created “knowledge and experience that Minister felt was equivalent.” • New masters programs– curriculum within these programs are being reviewed to determine if it they are meeting the criteria under the HPPA. • Current challenge – Masters programs are an alternative to internship, and meet College of Dietitian requirements, but do not necessarily meet criteria under HPPA. • Next Steps – whole process needs to be reviewed.
