  3. Medellin Cartel The Medellin Cartel was an organized network of “drug suppliers and smugglers” originating in the city of Medellin, Colombia. During the height of its operations, the Cartel brought in more than $60 million per day!! The total amount of money made by the Cartel was in the tens of billions, and very possibly the hundreds of billions of dollars

  4. Shakira Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll (born February 2, 1977),known professionally as Shakirais a Colombian singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer, and philanthropist, who emerged in the music scene of Colombia and Latin America in the early 1990s.

  5. Medellin’s Industrial Revolution. During the 19th century, the city grew to national importance because of its production of the commodities of gold and coffee. Construction of the regional railway enabled it to export its products to markets more readily. The railway is no longer used. The Thousand Days War (1899-1902) stopped the industrial development of the city, although the civil war did not affect the region directly.

  6. Festival of the Flowers. It is the most representative event in the city of Medellín. Is done in late July to early August. The Festival, plus many other activities and festivities, is the main axis the Desfile de Silleteros, a colorful and artistic parade of flowers filled saddles on the back for their own grower and already well known internationally. Parade of Myths and Legends. On the night of 7 December each year, the Noche de lasluces, the center of the city is adorned with the parade that amid of costumes, songs and bands, evokes the most popular myths and legends of the region: La madremonte, El cura sin cabeza, La damaverde, El sombrerón, La llorona and many more.

  7. Sports Medellín'sbest-known and most popular sports clubs are the Atlético Nacional, Envigado F.C. and Independiente Medellín football (soccer) teams. They play at the AtanasioGirardot Stadium. Medellí­n is also known for its two main swim teams, the CalamaresPilsen and the Huracanes. Three-time Tour de France lap winner Santiago BoteroEcheverry was born in the city. Medellí­n is also the birthplace of professional golfer and PGA Tour player Camilo Villegas.
