  1. Small Tongue Makes Great Boasts September 16th, 2012

  2. Two Metaphorical Truths 1) As a small bridle controls an enormously larger horse…so our small tongue controls much of our lives.

  3. Two Metaphorical Truths 2) As a mammoth ship is directed by a seemingly insignificant rudder…so our lives are directed by our seemingly insignificant tongue.

  4. An Implication of the Metaphors • As the horse needs a trainer to learn how to respond to the bridle rightly, and as the ship needs a captain to steer the rudder rightly so… we also need a master who alone can tame the tongue and that master is the Spirit of God.

  5. A Sinful Characteristic of the Tongue • Apart from the Spirit’s control, our tongues will naturally seek to elevate & protect self.

  6. 3 Reasons to Tame the Tongue 1) Our words reflect our hearts.

  7. 3 Reasons to Tame the Tongue 2) Each of us will give an account for every ‘careless’ word we have spoken.

  8. 3 Reasons to Tame the Tongue 3) Since our words reflect our hearts -our eternity will be known by our words.
