LET’S START… • A resume is a factual representation of your skills, abilities, background • Your resume should highlight any of your qualifications/skills related to job openings • Chronological resumes are preferred by most Employers • Recruiters spend AT MOST 20-30 seconds reviewing a resume

  3. Resume Basics: • Font styles - Arial, Times New Roman, or Calibri • Font sizes between10-12 (Name can be larger) Margins should be .8 - 1.0” wide • CAPS, bolding, underlining and bullets make it easier to read • Print on cotton bond paper (white or crème) • One page only, unless you have significant previous experience; then two pages at most • Remember recruiters spend between 20- 30 seconds on any given resume!

Resume Basics: • Include keywords found in job openings • Do not use the words me, my or I • Use short phrases beginning with action words • Periods are not needed • Do not use acronyms (ie: BBA) • Make sure you use correct grammar, tenses and spelling • Use spell check and have someone else review it before you turn it in

Grading: Your resume MUST be submitted in the CSPD format and will be graded according to the Resume Grading Rubric: NON-CAP students (in class) Wednesday, February 12th (Section 1) Thursday, February 13th (Section 3) CAP students (email résumé to cap@utsa.edu) Both sections due NO LATER than 12:00 pm on Thursday, February 13th

ACTIVITIES AND HONORS • Include student organizations, volunteer activities, scholarships and academic achievements. • Make sure to list significant positions of responsibility; include title, name of organization/team, dates within your community service or extracurricular activities. • List your leadership roles, achievements, contributions

  19. ADDITIONAL SKILLS • Fluent in Portuguese; conversational in French • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access • Familiar with C++ and Java • CPR and First Aid Certification, valid through August 2014

  20. FINAL TIPS • Make sure your resume is focused toward the field (and job) you want. • Do NOT include references on your resume. Create a separate references page. • Your resume MUST be absolutely free from grammatical, spelling, punctuation, usage, and typographical errors. • Can include your contribution towards educational expenses (“Financed 100% of college expenses through part-time work”)
