  2. What makes us Marianist today? • As we bring ourselves to the Christian Story; we are fascinated by parts of it, challenged by other parts and that story becomes alive for us. • Marianist identity is much more than what we believe – it is who we are and how we live • Symbols, rituals & even our citizenship in the Marianist Family • Language, Culture in which we live. • World view – family – culture - church • So we bring ourselves to the Marianist Story; we are fascinated by parts of it, challenged by other parts and that story becomes alive for us. • “Our identity, a fruit of the Spirit, keeps us in communion with the whole Church. Our future is dependent upon our identity . “ (André Fétis, S.M.)

  3. The International Center for Marianist Formation was established in September 2002 to foster ongoing and permanent formation for all branches of the Marianist Family. Mission Statement Our mission is to promote study and provide ongoing resources and programs in the Marianist charism for both specialists and popularists, which complement the particular formation efforts in all Units of the Society of Mary and within the entire Marianist Family, as we strive to live our missionary vocation around the globe. Statement of Purpose Understanding that Marianist Spirituality and charism are inculturated in a local context, there exists several continental (zonal) formation centers around the globe. Each continental (zonal) center coordinates the formation efforts of the Marianist Family within their specific geographical region. ICMF facilitates the coordination of these centers and advises and encourages their activities. Periodically, ICMF coordinates international formation programs for the Marianist Family.

A method of readings, personal reflection, and shared prayer is provided. This program is best accomplished with the aid of a Marianist formator or mentor The Spirit of Saragossa Retreat is a 4 week intense retreat grounded in Marianist content and method. This retreat experience usually occurs shortly before the ceremony for perpetual profession of vows. The Spirit of Saragossa Retreat is best when directed by a Marianist who has been trained in leading such a retreat. While this program was developed primarily for the vowed religious, it may have use for other persons in the Marianist Family with appropriate adaptation.
