  1. Assessment of error due to orifice diametermis-measurement Michael Reader-Harris TUV NEL Scotland

  2. Introduction • Orifice diameters have been mis-measured • The aim of this project was to calculate the error • Actual calculations were carried out for Blackrod (2 orifice runs), initially in percentage terms

  3. Correction factors: volume or energy

  4. Four-minute intervals • Each (approximately four-minute) interval was considered and the flow calculated in each tube.  • The interval is only known to the nearest minute; so for that interval Qused, A= used flow in Tube A Qtotal= total flow (supplied by National Grid) Qcalc, A, Qcalc, B= calculated flows in Tubes A and B

  5. Individual days • Except for any effects at the beginning and ends of the day the flow in a day, Qday, calc , should equal Qday, used. • At least for the volume flow this is generally true.  • To ensure that

  6. Corrected values

  7. Percentage corrections

  8. Results • The results have been analysed for Blackrod, but a similar calculation will work for any site
