  4. Steampunk: A Definition Steampunk is a subgenre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes.

  5. Overlying Questions/issues • does the author craft the story in a way that the technology seems natural? • What would the world be like if the technology described was available? Would the world be better or worse? • Technology v. Morality

  6. Frankenstein -Mary Shelley • The truly chilling story of the consequences of technological/ scientific advance. Victor Frankenstein loses his mother at a young age and swears that he will discover the secret of life. He obsesses over the mystery of life and death and after years of hard work, he believes he has discovered the secret of bestowing life…but at what cost?

When Victor’s twin brother Konrad falls seriously ill, Victor embarks on a desperate and dangerous mission to Concoct the Elixir of Life and save his brother.

How far should creative license go?
