HEM: Aims and scope HEM: • is a track of EPELM, LM in Economic Policy. • is based in the Department of Economics and the School of Economics, Management and Statistics. • offers the opportunity to have close contacts with researchers in the field of health economics, health policy, healthcare management, health law based in several others leading departments of the University of Bologna. • aims to form a far-sighted and socially responsible healthcare management professional working either in private or in public environments.

  3. Prospects Our students will develop: • knowledge of disciplines that are keys inthe understanding of decision-making in healthcare; • understanding of main options in the management, policy, planning and financing of healthcare services; • abilityto use disciplines in formulating, implementing and evaluating healthcare decisions, policies and plans; • long-run orientation in problem analysis; • internationalviewon solutions and best practices.

  5. The learningplan Learning activities are organized according to the following plan for 120 ECTS credits in total. HEM is a full-time program and attendance is required.

  6. 1° semester: September 17 – December 22

  7. 2° semester: February 16 – May 15

  8. 3° semester: September – December

  9. Third and fourthsemesters

  10. There will be 3 TAs this year: • Economics • Paolo Barbieri • Statistics&Econometrics • BabakJahanshahi • Management • Abduljabbar Omar Alsaleh Teaching assistants

HEM students can do their curricular internship starting from the 2nd semester of their 1st year and during their second year. • Students dedicate 480 working hours (3 full-time months) to the internship and upon its completion they are granted 8 ECTS. • Advising • Developing a good internship is a matter of matching students with employers. • The overall process is coordinated by prof. Matteo Lippi Bruni. Internships

A thesis should consist of an extended paper containing either a critical\systematic survey of the literature or an original contribution to it. • Project&Supervisors • In the 2nd year students develops a project and “choose” supervisors who oversee the preparation of their final dissertation. A project should be handed in by the end of October 2nd year. • Advising • The overall process is coordinated by prof. Double Degree (DD) opportunities • Agreements with the following academic partners allow our students to earn a DD also at: • the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) • the Institute of Health Management and Health Economics - University of Oslo (UiO). • the Institute of Health Policy & Management – Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) (from AY 2013-14) • Limited number of seats available. We allocate them using your admission grade + proficiency in English + motivation letter. • A call for application will be published soon.
