Goals • Increase student achievement in core areas, specifically math and science. • Increase the numbers of highly effective teachers in math and science classrooms. • Impact student preparedness for college or the workplace by increasing academic rigor. • Increase the number of students in the STEM workplace pipeline.   3. L&N STEM Academy Initiatives • Establish a philosophical framework for our stand-alone magnet high school: STEM is a process not a product—a habit, not content. The essential element of high quality STEM education is not a narrow focus, but an open mind disciplined and empowered by scientific reasoning, technological expertise, engineering design, and mathematical logic. (Ogden, “What Is STEM?”) KARST

  4. L&N STEM Academy Initiatives • Develop faculty capacity and processes to develop innovative STEM curriculum with partners in higher education and industry. KARST

KARST Hub Initiatives • Develop infrastructure for collaboration among K12, higher education, business and government partners. • Identify leverage points for school systems and other partners. • Initial design and implementation of pilot program for interdisciplinary STEM design class in partner school(s). • Initial exploration of role as conduit for disseminating research-based innovations.
