  11. The article “Ecotourism in Kiriwong Village” reported in Bangkok Post (Outlook) 1999, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of ecotourism in Thailand by presenting K. village in NSTh. Tourists are interested in ecotourism because of the beauty of nature, and the villager’s way of living inharmony with nature, as well as their philosophies and beliefs. However there are problems affecting the villagers in K. One of the problems is that they cannot fully welcome all visitors during their busy harvest time. Other problems include garbage left by visitors and the negative impact on the vegetation growing on the way up K.L. due to building a rest area and toilets for them. Besides these problems, there are some people who have negative attitudes towards the unpredictable source of money the villagers gain from this form of tourism. They think ecotourism also destroys whole communities and causes undesirable social changes if some continues to expand. In contrast, some people think village tourism attracts tourists to stay among villagers and share in their activities and that the local people are capable of taking care of these things by themselves.
