Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos built a donut-shaped clubhouse in Mexico. The circular building floats on the lake near the shore and is 19,374 square feet in size.

Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos Built Doughnut-Shaped Clubhouse Built on an enormous land of 914-acre, Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos has created a clubhouse, open to nature completely. Situated in the outskirts of Valle de Bravo, it is seen as a socialization hub. This structure is a 19,374 square-foot circular space that floats on the lake close to the shore. It is held upon a framework of cross-laminated timber-based columns and beams intercepted with stone walls as the exterior wall. There is a pathway provided along the diameter that sinks to the level of the waterbody. It extends beyond the structure on the outside to a floating deck.
Source: worldarchitecture.org The site surrounding this Clubhouse is to host residential development of 370 hectares that would be designed and built with the landscape in mind. By incorporating nature into this project they have sustained the indoor and outdoor connection as well. This 1800-square meter building consists of a bar, cigar room, and gym. Massage booth, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, kitchen, restroom, firepit, a swimming pool, and a dining table. Complimenting the beautiful landscape around the doughnut-shaped clubhouse, the interior spaces of the clubhouse host areas of relaxation and calm. The presence of nature and the waterbody enhances the experience of the users as well. Being constructed as a part of the lake, it hosts activities such as water skiing for the users on the extended part of the lake.
While embarking on the projects, architects at the Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos tried to capture the essence of the space. The main elements of the mountains and the lake were elegantly combined by placing the clubhouse at the edge of the lake. With the concept of having a subtle yet friendly design, the architects seek to create a space integrated with nature. This brought up the idea of having a space similar to a boat, tied to the edge of the lake in a floating manner.

The play in spatial features is brought up by the materials and the waterbody. Circulation is extended on the outer and inner rings of the structure with the middle pathway extending outside to provide a deck space for relaxing and socializing.
The pathway in the middle of the doughnut-shaped clubhouse also is a dividing factor between two sets of activities, Towards the east, the structure holds spaces like kitchen barbecue and dining-related activities. Meanwhile, the space to the west holds a gym, spa, jacuzzi, changing rooms with steam room, and sauna. The use of cross-laminated timber columns and beams is done to go along with the circular layout. Placed radially at short distances they give support and character to the interior space. Natural elements have been included in the material palette of the interiors as well. Kebony deck, Volcanic rock, and American red oak for the roof were chosen by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos reflecting the material palette of the surroundings. The stone faces are also placed in a manner that gives way to air circulation and ventilation. They further elevate the experience by providing softwoods heated with furfuryl alcohol with special technology.
