  1. Chinese Theater

  2. Students: We’ve graduated! We’ve graduated! Woohoo!

  3. Marcy: I’m so happy that we’re finally done with high school! Now that graduation is over, my parents can’t control me anymore.

  4. Friend: Come on. Aren’t you exaggerating?

  5. Marcy: No, my parents always made sure that I spent every minute with my nose stuck in a book.

  6. Friend: What are you doing after graduation? Some of us are going out tonight. Want to come?

  7. Marcy: I can’t. I think that my grandmother is coming over for dinner.

  8. Friend: Oh well. See you later then.

  9. Marcy: Bye.

  10. Marcy: I’m home!

  11. Mom: Marcy, why are you home so late? Didn’t I tell you there are important people coming over for dinner?

  12. Marcy: Who? Didn’t you say that this is a family dinner?

  13. Mom: It is a family dinner. They’re company that will soon become our family.

  14. Marcy: Huh? What are you saying?

  15. Mom: Oh, god! They’re here already! Quick, take a seat and please look pretty!

  16. Mom: Hello.

  17. Grandma: Hello.

  18. Grandma: Marcy, this is Mr. Liow.

  19. Grandma: Your parents and I have chosen him for you.

  20. Marcy: Grandma! What are you saying?

  21. Grandma: You didn’t tell her yet? Don’t worry, the marriage is still set.

  22. Marcy: Marriage? I’m only thinking about college now and you’ve already picked out a husband for me to spend the rest of my life with?

  23. Marcy: I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be rude, but no one has told me anything!

  24. Mom/Grandma: I’m so sorry.

  25. Mom: How dare you embarrass our family like that? I thought that we brought you up as a respectful Chinese woman.

  26. Marcy: I don’t know them! I’m just want you and dad to let me go to college to study fashion. I even have several interviews for an internship.

  27. Mom: Since when were you thinking about this? Did you even tell your father yet? This will piss him off so much!

  28. Marcy: Not yet. But I’ll do it now before this whole marriage thing happens. I don’t want to be trapped here. I want to see the world.

  29. Mom: Dad, get in here!

  30. Dad: What is all this yelling about?

  31. Mom: Your daughter has something to tell you.

  32. Marcy: Dad, I know this will disappoint you, but I’ve decided to go to college instead of settling down and helping with the family business.

  33. Dad: What? I built this business from the ground up so you and your family can inherit this business. You don’t need to go to college!

  34. Marcy: Dad, I don’t understand why you’re so upset. I don’t want to be controlled by a stranger. I want an opportunity to succeed on my own.

  35. Dad: I understand that you don’t want us to choose your husband for you. But he is very smart and will do well in the family business.

  36. Mom: This is what I have to work with? Well, I’ve seen worse. I’m going to turn you from a sow’s ear into a silk purse.

  37. Mom: I’ll have you primped and polished until you glow with pride. Trust my recipe for an instant bride. You’ll bring honor to us all.

  38. Grandma: Wait and see, when we’re through boys will gladly go to war for you. With good fortune and a great hair-do, you’ll bring honor to us all.

  39. Marcy: Look at me. I will never pass for a perfect bride. Or a perfect daughter.

  40. Marcy: Could it be. That I’m not meant to play this part? If I were to truly be myself, I would break my family’s heart.

  41. Mom: Fine, if you want to go to college and study fashion, go ahead. But don’t come crying back to us when you can’t find a job.

  42. Marcy: Don’t worry, mom. I have a feeling that I’ll make it in the fashion industry. You said that you like how I designed my own prom dress.

  43. Marcy: Hello. How are you? I’m looking for Mr. Wu

  44. Secretary: What are you here for? Today we’re holding interviews and don’t have time for you.
