  3. Qualities of a good presenter To be a good radio presenter there a few good qualities you need to be successful. Confidence Friendliness Adaptability Humour Interests Sociable Talk ability Team worker Organised AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BE YOURSELF and let your unique and happy personality shine!

  4. Qualities a presenter must have Good personality- The key is to be yourself in your broadcasting role. You should be unique and let your happy personality shine. You want to be someone who your audience can trust and warm to and make them feel like your someone they like and know and can relate to. Confidence-Confidence is a key factor in radio, people who are confident radiate strength and passion which listeners definitely warm to and like. On radio as the saying goes fake it till you make it because you will make it! Humour-Humour is a key factor for commercial radio, however part of being funny s being sensitive to the mood of the audience. There is a time and place for everything. As radio presenters get to know their target audience the easier it becomes to adapt to their sense of humour. Talk ability- On radio you have to be able to talk to a diverse group of people. Although their is usually a target audience there will of course be the odd few out of that circle that you need to talk to and relate to. You should be able to articulate interesting ideas in a compelling way. Have interests- Having interests keeps you interesting and the radio interesting, it keeps the listeners on their toes and allows talk back for listeners to be for or against interests and ideas. The more things you can do outside work be it playing golf, going to the footy, seeing family and friends, keeping fit, reading, cooking, going to the theatre, the more your life will feed your work, and the more interesting your work will beon the radio.

  5. Nielsen Survey 2011 Monday – Sunday share by age group (previous survey in brackets)

  6. Presenters effectiveness in relation to target audience As you can see from Neilson’s 2011 survey both Nova 93.7 and Triple j have two of the highest ratings for their target audience range in comparison to the other stations. Both Triple J and Nova 93.7 have a positive effect in relation to their target audience as their ratings are high and on average have topped what they were in their last survey. They are taking into consideration and listening carefully to what their target audience wants and their for getting the high ratings. The presenters of these two stations talk to their target audience as an individual and make them feel comfortable as if talking to a friend. The presenters adapt to their target audience and mimic what they do. You have to be sensitive to your target audience in order to keep them there. The style of Nova 93.7 and Triple J music presenters and the way they shape their show by their style of presentation? Nova 93.7’s music presenters, Nathan and Nat use a very colloquial style of talking with a casual tone, they have a fast paced yet laid back attitude and style being thoroughly humorous and engaging. They engage their target audience as if they were talking to a friend rather than just listening to news. Nova is more mainstream which appeals to a wider range of people where as triple j attracts an audience who prefer a more unique genre, specifically alternative. In essence Nova attract the audiences by connecting with a large range of people, whereas triple J’s listeners flock to the station because they are attracted to the individuality and edge it provides.

  7. Difference between Commercial and ABC stations Commercial radio, is any radio station that is owned by a commercial entity. To be qualified as such, it must also be advertiser-supported and for-profit.Commercial stations such as Nova 93.7 offer different music genres, a mix of genres or talk back oriented programs. They broadcast content that is popular and relevant to their local target audience. Commercial radio stations are operated, owned, and driven by the communities they serve. Community radio is not-for profit and provides a service for individuals, groups and communities to tell their own interesting stories, to share their unique experience. Where as ABC radio is government funded. One of ABC’s stations Triple j is a nationally networked Australian radio station which is intended to appeal to listeners between the ages of 18 and 30. The station places a heavy emphasis on the music of Australia and new music generally playing more alternative music than commercial stations. This is a podcast of Nathan and Nat presenting on nova 93.7. It really shows how laid back, humorous and engaging they are and their use of colloquial language. It also shows how confident they are and how they treat their listeners (target audience) as an individual and friend. This is a podcast of the Doctor presenting on Triple J. It shows the individual, alternative and quirky nature and style that the show is presented in.
