  2. Our Best Practice Removing People from the Hazards

  3. How We Do It • We use FARO Laser Scanning Technology to create three dimensional (3D) drawings

  4. How We Got Started • We started using the scanning process to improve the accuracy of our design packages • It didn’t take long to realize there were other benefits of this system and the major one was the improved risk reduction

  5. How We Use the Scanner • We review all requested design work and walk the request out with the engineer, operations and scanning crew to make sure we fully understand the scope of work • The scan crew then takes the scanner out and scans the proposed area of work. • The scan crew then brings the image back and registers the image and saves it as a workable file that is compatible with the CAD system

  6. Benefitsof Using the Scanner • Keeps our personnel from having to climb around in the racks to take measurements and angles • Keeps us from having to put other contractors in danger by building and removing scaffolds • The 3D images can be used to verify and adjust positioning of equipment to prevent pinch points, and predetermine if maintenance personnel will able to work on and remove equipment as needed. • Accuracy of the scans has reduced rework in both design and fabrication to next to nothing.

  7. When We Don’tUse the Scanner • Very small jobs • Jobs that are at grade level • Even then we still can and will us the scan lots of times due to the accuracy
