  1. Risk Management Analysis is Essential in Integrative Medicine Practice

  2. A successful Integrative Medicine practice requires a successful systematic practice. Any system requires principles, practices and procedures to deliver optimal outcomes. An efficient system will reduce clinical errors, but this requires the Integrative Medicine practitioners to have the relevant skills, knowledge to implementing a risk management strategy. Every system within a business requires a process, and an Integrative Medicine system is no different.Cash flow, cost of service provided, clinical outcomes and any daily frustrations are some ofthe key indicators in providing an efficient Integrative Medicine service. As Michael Gerber, Legendary book, E-Myth revisited states, "Organize around business functions, not people. Build systems within each business function. Let systems run the business and people run the systems. People come and go but the systems remain constant"

  3. Any healthcare practice must reduce inefficiencies and poor clinical outcomes. One should consider evaluating services by examining the data on customer satisfaction surveys, evaluating the progress notes of clients and having risk analysis protocols that cover the areas of: Clinical Diagnosis (including Family History) Imaging Studies and Lab tests Severity, Prognosis, Stage, Complications Risk classification

  4. Fit-for-Purpose In order to create a safe system of care for all patients/clients, an Integrative Medicine practitioner should consider using the standard Risk Assessment model, especially so when implementing complementary and alternative medicineprotocols. The model should consider; assessing the frequency and severity of the risk; reducing or eliminating the risk; evaluating the costs saved by reducing the risk Thus, for an Integrative Medicine practice,it is essential to gather information about riskso as to ensure that the combination of therapies is fit-for-purpose.

  5. The risk-management analysis system for Integrative Medicine practice should considermedication (allopathy and herbal) errors, clinical processing issues such as incorrect diagnosis and treatment, equipment failures, incorrect nutrition advice, improper implementation of complementary and alternative medicine& therapies, inadequate documentation, and more. As practitioners of Integrative Medicine, we are responsible for the clinical outcomes of our clients/ patients. Having a proactive risk management system will help mitigate errors and adverse events and provide safe healthcare for the consumer.
