Celebrating Heather!!!Building a Foundation A dedicated focus on inclusion of all sorts, including institutional type across this work. • Early examples: Transfer at W&M, Working with COACh, Early Promotion of Diverse Geoscience Educators • How it plays out: 2YCs everywhere in Geo, SAGE/TWP diversity work, Connections to expertise and complementary efforts, Pictures and pronouns • Why it is important: Expertise lies in all corners of our community. Diversity of experience strengthens our knowledge.

Celebrating Heather!!!Building a Foundation The development of programming supporting geoscience educators through the arc of their professional careers, including developing leadership. • Early Examples: Developing Student Career Choices in Geoscience (Scrutiny), Stages of Career Preparation (Strong Departments), Early Career Faculty and Career Prep • How it plays out: SAGE2YC, InTeGrate emphasis on workforce prep, Early Career/Career Prep sustained leadership • Why it is important: Undergraduate education is just the beginning and classroom learning isn’t enough

Celebrating Heather!!!Building a Foundation An understanding that lasting change requires both work with faculty and with programs and colleges. • Early Influences: Curriculum Matrix, PKAL, Dean of Undergraduate Studies in Arts and Science 1994-1996 • How it plays out: SAGE2YC change model, Early Career Advice, Geoscience Women in Leadership, • Why it is important: Institutional and cultural change ensure success beyond the individuals involved today; Bridging the Faculty/Admin divide

Early Influences: Transfer work at William and Mary, 2000 Workshop How it plays out: 2YC Everywhere in Geo, Why it is important: 2YCs are a critical element in our geoscience education ecosystem

Celebrating Heather!!!Building a Foundation Where are we today? • A strong community of Geo2YC educators • Strong integration of that community into the larger geoscience education community • New models for successful leadership development, regional professional development, and institutional change • A new generation of 2YC, diversity, Early Career and other leaders • Connections to related efforts, Expertise from other communities • Celebrating Heather :)
