  2. Purpose • To inform Service members of the health care and mental health care options available to them and their family

  3. Fixer upper • The navy wants to fix you prior to setting you free • Comprehensive medical evaluation, Separation History and Physical Exams (SHPE) are now REQUIRED for all separating member • Set in place to identify and document medical conditions requiring ongoing care/ disability claims

  4. Before you get out! • All separating members WILL get a physical, and dental check up prior to separation • Member will get a copy of medical record for themselves and their family if applicable.

  5. Examination requirements for members making a disability claim may be met by an exam with the disability team • Members wishing to take advantage of this option are encouraged to being 180 prior to their EAOS If it hurts, get it checked, claim it

  6. What is available for YOU

  7. Services • DOD Mental Health Self-Assessment Program • Referral program provided for military families and Service members affected by deployment and mobilization • Active duty Service members can self-refer for mental health if seen at a Medical Treatment Facility

  8. DOD’s inTransition program • Confidential coaching program that answers questions about treatment options, provides information about community resources, and secures appointment with behavioral experts • All service members seen by a behavioral health provider within one year of separation will automatically be enrolled in the program

  9. VA offers specialized treatment of mental health issues such as PTSD and substance use disorders • Separated Service members with urgent mental health or substance use problems are considered a high priority for VA car

  10. Veterans Affairs Coverage • Under the Combat Veteran Authority, the VA offers Combat Vets who were discharged from AD on or after 28 Jan 03 enhanced enrollment placement for 5 years.

  11. Suicide Resource • The Veterans Crisis Line is available for Veterans and their families and friends, who may be the first to realize a Veterans is in emotional distress • VTC is toll free, and a confidential resource that’s connects Vets in crisis Call 1-800-273-8255 support 24/7, 365 days a week
