  2. History/ Origins of Animation • The first animated film was made by Émile Cohl who created the shot-film “Fantasmagorie” which was the first animated film made. Which showed a 2D figure roaming around doing random things. This was the first step of modern-day animation technology. • The next step in animation was Clay-Stop Motion animation, such as Wallace and Gromit and Gumby. This changed the way animation was made from then, onwards such as “Creature Comforts” also from the creator of Wallace and Gromit. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEAObel8yIE – An extract from “Fantasmagorie”.

  3. Cartoon and Animation Technology • Most cartoons are commonly drawn, and then placed in a computer, where the animator is able to do things with the character, or scene within the animation. • Modern day animators use CGI to create a 3D world in which the animated character lives in, this creates a better effect for the viewers and adds more sense to a story line or plot. • Other forms of technology within animation is Stop Motion Animation, such as Wallace and Gromit, these films are stop-motion films which consist of photos being taken, linked together, to create the illusion of a moving image.

  4. Types of Animation • Modern technology has allowed the Animation industry to expand and develop. Developments include 3D animation, which stepped up from 2D animation which was used at the beginning of the Animation Era. The three main types are clay animation, computer animation, and regular animation. • Also, Cel-Shaded animation (Family Guy) Allows seemingly hand draw characters to appear on a CGI surrounding within a computer. This gives a cartoon effect of the animation.

  5. Well Knows Cartoon Characters • The highest known cartoon character is Bugs Bunny, created by Warner Brothers to star in the cartoon “Looney Toons” which stared a number of cartoon characters. Followed by Mickey Mouse, which was the first character created by Ub Iwerks who partnered with Disney for a long time, creating their characters for their shows. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6c_WgxTsMo Shows Mickey Mouse’s first appearance.

  6. Well known Animating Studios • Pixar are the highest well known animating film studios, the creators of Monsters Inc. Pixar partner with Disney for films such as Cars and Toy Story. • Another highly known animating studio is Dream Works, creators of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda and other animated films. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ggr1KcWtKs – A video of Pixar’s Lamp intro the beginning of all their films.
