  1. Example 1 Fog hangs low across the battlefield. Death is in the air. The many bodies of brave soldiers, fathers, sons, and brothers are strewn across the ground. Blood stains much of the ground. Those remaining say nothing, dealing with their losses. The grass is brown and dead. Few men on horseback move slowly across the field. Not a happy soul for miles. The soft thumps of horse hooves in the distance are all that is to be heard. The air tastes bitter and smells of the gratuitous carnage. Like a mixture of sadness, blood , and guts. There is nothing good about this place.

  2. Example 2 Flies buzz close to Billy’s matted hair, and the stench of his bowels wafts over the field. Ripped pieces of blue fabric tumble as the light April breeze mixes them with the bits of paper, tin cups, pocket bibles, bits of old string, bloodstained rags which soldiers discarded as they search for signs of their wounds. A horse screams in terror and pain until the report of a colt brings it to an end. Gregory’s hand stops shaking and falls from his prone chest; the ragged letter from his father, smeared with blood, tumbles onto the trampled grass while the distant rumble of artillery rolls on.

  3. Example 3 As I stood in the snowy, freezing train track, I glanced at the train chugging by. As it passed, the toxic black smoke erupting from its brick smoke stack was sickening. I noticed the passengers and they all looked so cozy and contain in their cabs. I started walking hearing the crunch of snow under my feet, and examined the dead scenery. I thought about how beautiful it must look in the summer. The bare tress paired with the overcast sky made today feel drab comparatively. The vast amount of mountainous land in the back seemed to ease the otherwise stale feeling of this crisp winter day.

  4. Example 4 Fog loomed over the mountains in the distance while the creek rushed through the valley. The freezing water splashed and slurped gushing down the falls. The puffy clouds overhead cast shadows all around. On the tallest mountain ahead, the shape of a cross bore into its face. Birds singing their harmonious tunes filled the air and glistening snow covered the tops of the mountains.

  5. Example 5 As the sun rises, it reveals a sight of defeat, wounded soldiers everywhere. For some had luck on their side, but for most, that luck didn’t make an appearance. The desperate cries and moans seem to cut the silence with a knife. The smell of death, bravery, and fear fill the air. The men lying here, lived and died for freedom, battling day in and day out to claim what they wanted for so long.
