  1. Thesis Statement CLEAN UP TIME!

  2. Every Thesis Statement Needs: • Topic (or Subject) • Position (or opinion) • 3 Reasons (The topic of each body paragraph) NOTE: The ORDER doesn’t matter – you just need to have all 3 sections.

  3. #Wheredoesitgo? • Thesis Statement is the LAST sentence in your introduction. • It is only ONE SENTENCE.

  4. Reminders: • Three reasons should NEVER be written as complete sentences. • Use Parallel structure when writing your three reasons (same grammatical pattern)

  5. Parallel Structure = Same Grammatical Pattern EX: Green grass, blue skies, white clouds. (adj) (n) (adj) (n) (adj) (n) EX: While running, dancing, and yodeling, Jennifer entertains us. EX: A good relationship is filled with love, respect, and kindness.

  6. WRONG Mrs. Luccia and Mrs. Timmins are strong leaders for the following reasons: they are good role models, have clever minds, and know the best choices. What is wrong with this? How can you fix it?

  7. Correct! Mrs. Luccia and Mrs. Timmins are heroes because of their incredible courage, great nobility, and bold deeds. OR With their incredible courage, great nobility, and bold deeds, Mrs. Luccia and Mrs. Timmins prove they are heroes.

  8. Fix this: • Jack and Aidan are good leaders because they can get their friends and crew out of trouble, they are smart, and they use others’ help.

  9. Jack and Aidan are good leaders because they can get their friends and crew out of trouble, they are smart, and they use others’ help. • Jack and Aidan are good leaders because they are brave, clever, and resourceful.

  10. Correct! Because they are arrogant, selfish, and unfocused, Maddie and Ally can not be considered heroes.

  11. One is a Hero, & the other…not so much. Grace is a hero because of her courageous manner, noble actions, and bold deeds, but Marcus is not a hero.
