Outline Introductions and Background Andrew Lovatt –using Personal Capture for revision purposes and software guides Tom Nye – creating Personal Capture video practical exercises Nick Randall – using Personal Capture to produce pre-lectures Carys Watts – ReCap for student presentation feedback Discussion

Background Recording of lectures – ~8,000 lecture room recordings made in 2011-12; ~350,000 hits New technology from Sept 2012 – enhanced functionality for staff and students Personal Capture –available on desktop, laptop and iOS from September 2012 Wide variety of opportunities – to produce additional materials to enhance learning

ReCap for student presentation feedback Carys Watts – School of Biomedical Sciences Applied for individual HEA TDG ‘Enhancing the student feedback experience to promote employability using lecture capture for student presentations’ Personal capture software allows notes to be added to the recordings PowerPoint slides to be used in presentations

  6. Peer and own feedback notes onto ReCap recordings Students practice presentations in front of peers Confidence & self awareness Students feed-forward to prepare for the assessed presentation Personal and assessor feedback notes onto ReCap recordings

Benefits Does not record ‘talking head’ so enables students to focus on the message Practising presentation skills for employability Improved capacity for reflection Increased confidence Interactive and relevant A resource to reflect upon for future presentations Enhanced feedback from several sources

  8. Considerations Student buy-in (marks deducted for not attending the practice sessions) Engagement with reflection process (only get out what they put in) Requires students to agree to be recorded (can pause/edit recording) ReCap notes enables more in-depth and specific feedback
