  2. 2013 – 2014 Florida Governor Matthew Cantrell’s “STEPS TO EXCELLENCE” ACTIVITIES INVOCATION June 12, 2014 MEETING SPEAKER Heavenly Father, Give assurance of Your presence in and Your blessing on the things we do through Kiwanis. Open our eyes to the truth: That the problems of the world are due not only to the actions of the wicked, but also to the apathy of the good. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen RandeLeFevre Downtown Kiwanis Secretary Randy talked about two important initiatives that the Downtown Club is taking on: first of all, they are holding a "Charity Drawing" each month - in a nutshell, folks purchase a ticket for $20 which gives them a chance at winning $240 each month - and the winning tickets are put pack into the "pot" and are eligible to win every month of the contest - I guess that means theoretically a person could win over $2000 (not likely) which makes selling the tickets quite a bit easier. Secondly, he encouraged us to think about doing "BUG" programs ("Bring Up Grades") in our local schools - this program rewards all students who bring up at least ONE grade each grading period (with no grades dropping) at an assembly; each student is rewarded with a certificate and a small Kiwanis trinket (pencils, stickers, tags, rulers, etc.) My Evansville club did these programs for three different elementary schools, and I can attest to their worth and efficacy… From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J. Muench BOARD MEETINGS Every 2nd Monday PRESIDENT’S COMMENTS Make this a busy summer for our club! June through August each of us must get donations for our Chalk Art Contest scheduled for Sep. 27. We have asked for donations from Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach governments, and can only be hopeful. Each of us needs to contact two businesses to find more support. We have to cover $525.00 in prizes and probably another $100.00 for a banner. We also need to show up for the Finegan patio project on August 4. Both are great outreach projects for the community. Summer vacation has started for the students but not for Kiwanis. Have a great week. Karl Price 13001 Atlantic Blvd, Paula Powell’s Office 12 noon, BYOL July 14 August 11 September 8 October 13 Chuck Watson Thank you Rande for an informative and inspiring talk.
