Mateo 6:1 - 6, 16-18

1. Mateo6:1-6, 16-18 1 En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Tengan cuidado de no practicar sus obras de piedad delante de los hombres para que los vean. De lo contrario, no tendrán recompensa con su Padre celestial.

2. 2 Por lo tanto, cuando des limosna,no lo anuncies con trompeta, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y por las calles, para que los alaben los hombres. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa. 3 Tú, en cambio, cuando des limosna, que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace la derecha,

3. 4 para que tu limosna quede en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, té recompensará. 5 Cuando ustedes hagan oración, no sean como los hipócritas, a quienes les gusta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas, para que los vea la gente. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa.

4. 6 Tú, en cambio, cuando vayas a orar, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora ante tu Padre, que está allí, en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, te recompensará.

5. 16 Cuando ustedes ayunen, no pongan cara triste, como esos hipócritas que descuidan la apariencia de su rostro, para que la gente note que están ayunando. Yo les aseguro que ya recibieron su recompensa.

6. 17 Tú, en cambio, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara, 18 para que no sepa la gente que estás ayunando, sino tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo secreto, te recompensará”.

9. Matthew6:1-6, 16-18 1 Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.

10. 2 When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,

11. 4 so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. 5 “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

12. 6 But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. 16 “When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

13. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”

16. Reflections on Matthew 6:1-6, 16,18 Reflexiones en Mateo 6:1-6, 16-18 by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J. March 5, 2014 Once again, the Lord calls us unto himself. Unworthy though we are, we know that he wants us to turn to him for our Lenten pilgrimage of 2014.

17. Una vez más, el Señor nos llama a sí mismo. Indignos como somos, sabemos que él quiere que volvamos a él para nuestra peregrinación de Cuaresma del 2014.

18. What is he saying to us? Each one in prayer needs to ask this question in deep silence, in the privacy of the heart, knowing that God is love, and for that reason does not abandon us to ourselves, but rescues us and purifies us to prepare for Easter.

19. ¿Qué nos esta diciendo? Cada uno en oración necesita preguntarse esta pregunta en profundo silencio, en la soledad de su corazón, sabiendo que Dios es amor, y que por esa razón no nos abandona a sí mismos, sino que nos rescata y nos purifica para prepararnos para la Pascua.

20. As the priest blesses the ashes, he sets the tone for the day: “Lord, bless the sinner who asks for your forgiveness, and bless + all those who receive ashes. May they keep this Lenten season in preparation for the joy of Easter. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

21. Cuando el sacerdote bendice la ceniza, establece el tono para el día: “Señor, bendice al pecador que te pide tu perdón, y bendice + a todos los que reciben ceniza. Que ellos guarden este tiempo de Cuaresma en preparación para la Pascua. Amen.”

22. Joel 2:12-13 says: “Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment.” We all sense a need to come back to the Lord with repentant hearts.

23. Joel 2:12-13 dice: “Conviértanse a mí de todo corazón, con ayuno, con llanto, con luto. Rasguen los corazones y no los vestidos; conviértanse al Señor su Dios, que es compasivo y clemente, paciente y misericordioso...” Todos sentimos la necesidad de volver al Señor con corazones arrepentidos.

24. We belong to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. All those who receive ashes know that we all belong to Him, and to one another. We are all members of his body, the Church. He is the Head; we are the members, by baptism.

25. Somos del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espirito Santo. Todos los que reciben la ceniza saben que pertenecemos a Él, y uno al otro. Todos somos miembros de su Cuerpo, que es la Iglesia. Él es la Cabeza, somos los miembros, por razón del Bautismo.

26. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has a beautiful observation. “Even now, the compassion “gaze” of Christ continues to fall upon individuals and peoples. He watches them, knowing that the divine “plan” Includes their call to salvation. Jesus knows the perils that put this plan at risk, and he is moved with pity for the crowds.

27. El Papa Emeritus Benedicto XVI tiene una observación. “Hasta hoy, la “mirada” de Cristo continua cayendo sobre individuos y pueblos. Él los mira a todos, sabiendo que el “plan” divino incluye la llamada a la salvación. Jesús conoce los peligros que perjudican su plan, y es conmovido con compasión por la muchedumbre.

28. He chooses to defend them from the wolves even at the cost of his own life. The gaze of Jesus embraces individuals and multitudes, and he brings them all before the Father, offering himself as a sacrifice of expiation.”

29. Él escoge defenderlos de los lobos hasta costarle su propia vida. La mirada de Jesús abraza a todos los individuos y multitudes, y les trae a todos ante el Padre, ofreciéndose a sí mismo como sacrificio de expiación.

30. King David (Psalm 51),said it so well when he repented for his sins. “Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness; in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense. Thoroughly wash me from my guilt, and of my sin cleanse me. For I acknowledge my offense, and my sin is before me always;

31. El Rey David (Salmo 51), lo dijo tan bien cuando se arrepintió por sus pecados. “Misericordia, Dios mío, por tu bondad, por tu inmensa compasión borra mi culpa. Lava del todo mi delito, limpia mi pecado; pues yo reconozco mi culpa, tengo siempre presente mi pecado.

32. Against you only have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight. A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. Cast me not out from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me. Give me back the joy of your salvation, and a willing spirit sustain in me. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise”.

33. Contra ti, contra ti solo pequé, cometí lo que tú repruebas. O Dios, crea en mí un corazón puro, renuévame por dentro con espíritu firme. No me arrojes lejos de tu rostro, no me quites tu Santo Espíritu; devuélveme la alegría de tu salvación, afiánzame con tu espíritu generoso. O Señor, me abrirás los labios, y mi boca proclamará tu alabanza”.

34. It is so good to be reconciled with God! St. Paul implores us to do as much (2 Corinthians 5:20). Let us try once again to come to God. If you have been running on empty, now is the time to fill up with his Love.

35. ¡Que bueno es estar reconciliados con Dios! San Pablo nos implora hacerlo( 2 Corintios 5:20). Vamos una vez más a volver al Señor. Si has andado corriendo en vacío, ahora es el tiempo para llenarte con su Amor.

36. Why waste any more time hesitating? Now is the time for salvation. Now is the time to remember Joel 2:17 which says: “Let the priests and ministers of the Lord lament before his altar, and say: Spare us, Lord; spare your people! Do not let us die for we are crying out to you!”

37. ¿Porqué malgastar tiempo vacilando? Ahora es el tiempo para la salvación. Ahora es el tiempo pare recordar a Joel 2:17 que nos dice: “Entre el atrio y el altar lloren los sacerdotes, digan los ministros del Señor; Perdona, Señor, a tu pueblo, no entregues tu heredad al oprobio, porque ¡Estamos clamando a ti, Señor!”
