  1. Run For God Week 6 The Hay is in the Barn

  2. Story • “My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you…Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.” –Proverbs 2:1, 5 (NKJV) • The statement, “The hay is in the barn,” refers to the fact that the work is already done and that there is no more time to cram. There is no looking back now-there is nothing more to do than to execute the job you have been training and preparing for. • As we near our race we are storing up hay for the big day. On this day we will use the investment of hay we have been storing to help us endure the race we have set before us.

  3. Continued • For us, in our spiritual lives, the hay is the Word of God and the barn is our heart. • Sometimes we do not always feel like putting in the spiritual investment. • We want God to show up and do something miraculous without having to invest the time to know him better. • Proverbs 2:1 says to store up His commands. (i.e. Put hay in the barn!) We must dive into the Word so that our lives can be governed by truth and motivated by love. Spending daily time in the Word is more about the future than today. It always comes back to you in positive ways when you need it most.

  4. Discussion • How do you put spiritual hay in your barn? • What are your excuses for not spending more time in God’s Word? • How do you make sure you don’t fall into a rut when you spend daily time with the Lord? • Why does your tomorrow depend on today?

  5. Get in the Word • Workout 1-Deuteronomy 5:29 • Workout 2-John 14:21 • Workout 3-Hebrews 6:1
