  1. 24th Week of the year 2013

  2. Background: On Home Mission Sunday we pray for our Church in England and Wales. It is estimated that there are 4 million Catholics in this country but only 1 million will gather each Sunday to celebrate Mass together. Our prayers this week are that all can feel that the Church welcomes them with open arms and our faith will be greatly strengthened as we worship together.

  3. Monday 16th September St Cornelius, Pope and St Cyprian a North African Bishop both friends in the 3rd Century who worked hard for the church to be filled with God’s love and mercy. Reader: ‘My advice is that, first of all, there should be prayers offered for everyone petitions, intercessions and thanksgiving and especially for kings and those in authority, so that we may be able to live religious and reverent lives in peace and quiet.’ (First Letter to Timothy 2:1)

  4. Let us pray… Loving Father, whose arms are always open to welcome us home. Fill all our hearts with the spark of your love and help us to be a community of welcome and compassion. Amen

  5. Tuesday 17thSeptember St Robert Bellarmine an Italian Jesuit and a Cardinal, who through his wisdom helped to guide the church through the Counter Reformation. He died in Rome in 1621. Reader: ‘I the prisoner of the Lord implore you to lead a life worthy of your vocation. Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another.3 Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together.’ (St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 4:1-2)

  6. Let us pray… Loving Father, May the Holy Spirit guide us on your path and help us to see how we can encourage each other on our journeys of faith. Amen

  7. Wednesday 18thSeptember “I wanted you to know how people ought to behave in God’s family– that is in the Church of the living God, which upholds the truth and keeps it safe. Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is very deep indeed.” (Letter to Timothy 3:15)

  8. Let us pray… Loving Father, remove anything that stands in our path that prevents us from drawing close to your loving embrace, so that we may grow in care and concern for those around us who we share our life with,. Amen

  9. Thursday 19th September “Do not let people disregard you because you are young, but be an example to the believers in the way you speak and behave, and in your love, your faith and purity.” (Letter to Timothy 4:12)

  10. Let us pray: Loving Father, may we be always joyful that we are loved by you and that we are your beloved sons and daughters. Fill us with so much love that by the way we live our lives we may be your witnesses. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  11. Friday 20th September St Andrew Kim Taegon & Companions Martyrs for the faith in Korea between 1839 to 1867 Reader: Jesus said ‘Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge and you will not be judged yourselves; do not condemn and you will not be condemned, grant pardon and you will be pardoned. Give and their will be gifts for you.’ (Luke 6: 37-38a)

  12. Let us pray: Loving Father, your church is built through the witness of the martyrs, those who have kept to the faith despite persecution. May their witness and prayers help us in our own faith, so that your compassion may be poured out into the world. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
