  2. What is Apologetics? • Apologetics= making a case for the truth of Christian faith.

  3. Why Study Apologetics? • We are commanded to! • 1 Peter 3:15, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense (apologia) to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,” • Colossians 4:5-6, “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”

  4. Why Study Apologetics? • It’s the Example Jesus and His disciples left us. • Jesus appealed to miracles and to fulfilled prophecy to prove that His claims were true (Luke 24:25-27; John 14:11) • The Apostles responded to other Jews doubts regarding Jesus with fulfilled prophecy, Jesus’ miracles, and Jesus’ resurrection to prove He was the Messiah (Acts 2:22;25-28;31-32). • They used nature to point to a Creator God (Acts 14:17, Romans 1).

  5. Why Study Apologetics? • People your age are saying, “show me the evidence!” • According to Lee Strobel, author of The Case for Christ the largest group of readers who became Christians through his book has been 16-24 year olds. • According to the Nationals Study of Youth and Religion, the most common answer nonreligious teens offered for why they left their faith was intellectual skepticism. • David Kinnaman, president of the Barna Group, writes, “We are learning that one of the primary reasons that ministry to teenagers fails to produce a lasting faith is because they are not being taught to think.” • 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” • When we fail to answer someone’s questions and objections, we become just one more excuse for them to disbelieve.” • ~Walter Martin

  6. Why Study Apologetics? • Strengthening Believers

  7. Why Study Apologetics? • Leaving traditional faith and choosing personal faith. • 1 Thessalonians 5:21, “Test everything; hold fast what is good.”

  8. Why Study Apologetics? • We are commanded to give defense. • It is the example Jesus and His disciples left us. • People your age are saying, “show me the evidence.” • It will give you strength in your Faith in a world of doubt. • It will help you make your faith personal rather than traditional. 1 Peter 3:15, “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense (apologia) to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect”
