  1. 4 Fun Activities for Kids that Don't Involve Screen Time Have you noticed that your child is spending too much time on screen? So much so that he finds other play activities boring. When the parent tries to take back the mobile, the child starts crying, nagging, or engages in other challenging behaviors. Sometimes it is difficult for parents to manage and they end up giving it back. All of us have experienced this, but the problem is, nobody taught us parenthood with a smartphone because it didn’t even exist back in our time. We know the importance of playing and how it contributes to the all around development of children and makes them creative. Now suppose they are glued to the screen and find nothing interesting. Then we need to create a strategy to find proper replacements. Here are 4 Fun Activities for Kids that Don't Involve Screen Time: 1.Create awesome challenges 2.Take the help of grandparents 3.Keep changing toys 4.Read and write, but not in school manner

  2. 1) Create awesome challenges. Our assumption is that the child will get bored without the screen. However, if they are doing something which is enjoyable, they might not think of screen time. Create a daily set of challenges which will keep your child constantly engaged. To implement this correctly, observe carefully what your child finds interesting. Here is an example: Today’s Challenge 1) Stack blocks and make 3 different types of buildings. 2) Finish Coloring or Draw Something you like. 3) Find the hidden teddy or doll. To keep the child motivated, do not forget to give reinforcements “Wow! You have colored the page nicely.” or “We have found the teddy.” 2) Take the help of grandparents In olden times, there were no smartphones or tablets to entertain kids, still they had fun which their generation recalls to this day. So, why not take the help of elderly people in your family?

  3. Grandparents or elderly people find using computers or smartphones more challenging as compared to us, however they can be the perfect example for your child to have fun without the need of a screen. 3) Keep changing toys Another challenge parents face is that children nowadays get bored easily with the toys they already have. A creative way to tackle this challenge is to put the toys in a box which is hidden from the child and just take out the toys or any other tangibles your child loves to play with and change them after an interval. For example, you make two boxes of toys, the child plays with toys for a few weeks and starts to lose interest in them. We keep these toys in the first box and replace that with the hidden box. After not playing with the old toys for a while, He will want to play with them again. We are not discouraging you from buying new toys. This strategy will be useful when your child feels he got bored with the new toys. Once the cycle changes, that excitement can be recreated without going back to the screen. 4) Read and write, but not in school manner

  4. In play time, you can read stories to your child and if he knows reading then you hand him the storybook. When the child has just started to read, see to it that there are pictures / illustrations and the paragraphs are shorter. You can also give the child a pen & paper, ask him to write whatever comes to his mind. If the child is reading or writing during playtime, make sure it’s not structural and do not issue instructions because this is not study time, and as we know, playing is an unstructured activity, so let the child’s creativity flow. Yes, if the child is pronouncing or writing a word incorrectly, gently correct them by saying “Good job reading this sentence! Here is the correct way to pronounce…” Conclusion There are countless fun activities for children to engage in that don’t involve screen time. Some of them are creating a set of daily challenges, changing toys on a regular basis, spending time with their grandparents, and reading & writing, but not in a school manner. Children can benefit from activities that stimulate their creativity, imagination, and physical activity. By limiting their screen time and encouraging them to explore other activities, parents can help their children develop a range of skills and interests that will serve them well throughout their lives. From improved social skills and communication

  5. to increased confidence and independence, there are many benefits to be gained from engaging in activities that don’t involve screens. By reducing their reliance on screens, children can also develop healthier habits and lifestyles, including better sleep patterns and increased physical activity. This can lead to a better overall quality of life and a reduced risk of developing health problems related to excessive screen time, such as obesity and eye strain. Overall, while screens can be a valuable tool for learning and entertainment, it’s important to ensure that children are engaging in a variety of activities that promote their physical, mental, and social development. By finding a balance between screen time and other activities, parents can help their children thrive and enjoy a well-rounded childhood. Are you looking for screen addiction therapy? Butterfly Learnings offers ABA therapy for toddlers and young children who are struggling with screen addiction. The methods we use are evidence-based and proven to work. The therapy program uses a play-based approach and promotes health behaviors. Ultimately, it reduces challenging behaviors that are associated with screen addiction. Many young children and toddlers who spend excessive time on mobiles, tablets and other screen devices show challenging behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, and have low impulse control. In our therapy sessions, our therapists teach children play skills that replace the need for screen devices and other skills that help them to manage these behaviors more effectively.

  6. During the sessions, our therapists engage the child in activities that involve toy play, physical activity, social interaction, and creativity. These activities help children develop a sense of self-regulation and improve their impulse control. It reduces challenging behaviors and the constant need to pick up the phone. Butterfly Learnings also offer individualized treatment plans that are tailored to each child’s specific needs and goals. Our clinical team works closely with parents to develop strategies for limiting screen time and promoting healthy behaviors at home. Through the Butterfly Learnings therapy, children can learn to manage their screen addiction and reduce challenging behaviors. With the support of trained therapists and caregivers, children can develop the skills to lead a healthy and happy childhood, as well as a healthy screen-free lifestyle in which they can engage in physical play and socialize with others.
