  2. DVD Circulation for Central DVDAN (DVDs Adult Non-fiction) have a 3 week check out period. All of these titles are requestable. The non-fiction DVDs float along with the rest of the collection. If a patron checks out an item from Central, they can return it to any branch. It remains at that branch until it gets check out or requested.
  3. DVD Non-fiction The collection has a wide variety titles. Documentaries include: History Science Biographies TV Series (Reality and Drama) Non-fiction DVDs are often used in an educational setting the library offers many titles.
  4. Goals of IMCPL Serve a wide range of users Incorporate a large selection of materials in various categories Focus on current and timely popular materials in all formats Provide reference materials that are useful for reference services Materials that are of particular interest to Indiana and Indianapolis history

  8. Bestsellers List provided by http://www.amazon.com The search criteria was limited the DVD format, and the subject was documentary. The videos were ranked according to most sold that day. Unfortunately, the list changed from day to day. This list came from one particular day. There were 100 titles in this checklist.

Award-Winning Adult Documentary List referenced from ALA’S most notable videos for adults Criteria for Notable Video Selection: Addresses a new topic Expands the viewer’s knowledge of a particular subject Clarifies or explains a difficult topic, making it understandable to a general audience Promises to contribute significantly to the solution of a contemporary problem Expands the boundaries of the video medium, or application of video in a new and unusual manner 127 titles listed from 2000-2008 Each title was searched in the IMCPL catalog

Award Winning Children’s Videos List references from ALSC’s most notable children’s videos Criteria for videos: Appropriate for children through age 14 Demonstrates a respect for the child’s intelligence and imagination Reflects and encourages the interests of children Criteria used in evaluation: 1. utilization of media 2. technicality 3. Organization and appropriate treatment of material 4. Authenticity 5. Subject matter of interest and value to children All titles were searched against the IMCPL catalog There were 151 unique titles
  11. Information Collected Did IMCPL hold the title? Were there copies of this title located at Central Library? Were there any holds on this particular title? The information will change on a daily basis due to IMCPL’s floating collection policy.

  13. Conclusions An average of 110 Non fiction DVDs are circulated everyday IMCPL has 19 of the 151 videos listed in their catalog. There is a disparity of DVDs between the children’s videos and the amaon.com list.
  14. Recommendations Purchase more children’s videos based on the ALSC’s award winning list (Quite a few videos are children’s books with animation) This would promote reading readiness. More signage to promote childrens’ videos. More signage promoting the nonfiction videos on other floors. (Few patrons know there are DVDs on the other floors.) Include a detail on the marc record where the titles can be located Provide viewing areas for the non-fiction areas on other floors.
