Origins of ELF • Founded in 1977 by John Hannah • Originally called Environmental Life Force • No leadership • Acted as individual autonomous cell units • Placed firebombs on crop dusters • Disbanded in 1978 and constantly went in and out of dormancy. • ELF was renamed Earth Liberation Front in 1992 in England • March 2001 FBI categorized them as eco-terrorists

  3. Mission Statement • “to defend and protect the Earth for future generations by means of direct action” • ELF also believes that non-violent direct action should be a last resort

  5. How to Join ELF • As long as you are serving nature and are protecting it as a steward of the earth in an actively direct, violent way with a clear message. • Anyone may claim you are a member, it is for the websites to decide if you are or are not a member.
