  1. 9th Grade TribeHigh School and Beyond PlanPart 1 - 2/2/11 Washington State law says that “each student shall complete a High School and Beyond Education Plan”, and it will be reviewed and updated annually. We do this in Tribe. This HSBP shall be completed in cooperation with the student’s parent / guardian. A parent / guardian signature is required annually during the Student Led Conference to comply with this state requirement.

  5. Computer Competency Students must pass Computer Applications 1 & 2 or pass a competency assessment before graduation. The competency exam is a web-based program offered by the district which tests a student’s ability in Windows 2010 in PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Information on test times and registration procedures are available on the KSD & KaHS websites. Summer School at Tri-Tech may be a good option for taking the courses.

  6. Washington State History: Students must pass a semester of Washington State History prior to graduation. WSH is usually completed in Middle School. Students who transfer to Kamiakin and students who did not pass WSH in middle school need to see their Counselor.

  7. P.E. WaiversBeginning with the class of 2014, students wishing to waive the graduation requirement for P.E. must demonstrate competency in physical fitness, cognitive knowledge and physical skills portions of the Fitness Class requirement. A student must complete all PE waivers prior to the end of junior year. No waivers will be allowed during senior year. Students will need to take PE during senior year if they have not met the requirement via earning credits or securing waivers. • A student needs to complete a HS and Beyond Plan in Tribe during freshmen year indicating an academic need to participate in the PE waiver process. • A student may only waive .5 PE per school year. A student must test each school year (9th – 11th) to attempt to achieve a .5 waiver of PE. • The PE waiver opportunity will be made available 3 times per school year, (Oct, Dec. and May). Students may participate in the waiver opportunity more than one time in a school year. Details on waivers including study guides and registration forms are available on the KSD and Kamiakin web pages.

  8.   9. Advanced Placement – AP If you are four-year college-bound, consider AP courses junior and senior year. Pre-AP English for Sophomores Prepares you for AP English junior and senior year These courses allow students to earn college credit while in high school Nationwide exams occur in the spring Kamiakin participates in the AP special recognition program for students taking multiple exams: Scholar with Distinction Scholar with Honor Consult w/ your teachers and counselor for advice on AP. 9

  10. Starting your HSBP Progressing through this together, step by step, makes it easier. We will complete only 9th and 10th, for now. 11th and 12th will be completed next TRIBE. Fill in your Name & Advisor Name. Skip down to Student Worksheet – 9th Grade write in the courses that YOU PASSED during freshmen year 1st semester. Include any summer school before 9th grade and any middle school credit you requested and received. See 9th Grade sample on next slide

  11. 9th Gradefill in the class names for what you passed first semester of this year English 1 World Geography Or AP Human Geo Science (put the name of the science class) Math (put the name of the math class) Elective – (name of class) Elective – (name of class) Electives can be computer classes, World language, PE, marketing, technology etc.

  12. Counting credits Move up to the section labeled ”21 Credits Required for Graduation”. Check one box for each semester (.5 credit) class you passed, by subject area, during first semester of 9th grade only. For example, if you passed Algebra1, check 1 box for Math. If you have asked for the credit for courses taken in Middle School or if you passed the class in summer school, you can add those in 9th grade year and check the boxes. Check all the boxes for the classes you passed first semester – STOP hopefully you have at least 2.5 or 3.0 credits Move to the Non-Credit Graduations Requirements section check the box if you have ever passed Wash. State History Check a box for HSBP – 9th first semester. Check off if you completed your computer competency (last summer school or by passing the district test) Any anticipated waiver for 9th grade.

  14. HSBP - Sophomore Year As you decide what course to take, begin writing in your selections for sophomore year on your HSBP. The best advice as to what to take (especially in English, Math and Science) comes from you current teacher in that subject. Decide on and write in your choices, by name. Take it seriously Pick electives based on your Career Cluster and future education level When completed, check that you are covering graduation requirements
