  2. With 'Olssu', you are happy and Shin-Myung!

  3. Who is the percussion group 'Olssu'? Constantly growing 'Olssu' under the banner that our folk song fits the global one the most. 'Olssu' is a group created in 1992 in order to spread Korean traditional art, 'Pung mul no ri'. 'Pung mul no ri' is a creative and excellent Korean traditional art which comprises instrumental play, dance, song, play, and even dramatic elements, and also expresses well the Korean unique 'Shin Myung - the state of being in high spirits, enthusiastic and merry' – and community spirit. 'Olssu' is a professional percussion group based in 'Pung mul no ri‘ who experiments and creates various stages to let all ages and countries from the East to the West can enjoy with us. Special features of the work of 'Olssu' 'Olssu''s works are creating a collective 'Shin Myung - the state of being in high spirits, enthusiastic and merry'- by lifting up the high spirits to the maximum through beating actions by using not only Korean traditional instruments but also diverse instruments including western instruments and self-made percussions. The audiences are becoming one community pleasantly all together through this process.

  4. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 1. 'Modeum-buk' and 'Samulnori' Combining made drums which sound magnificent and diverse sounds with Samulnori, the Korean traditional percussion quartet, whose in-depth perfection is already recognized internationally, 'Olssu''s works display well Korean unique musical characters repeating tensions and relaxations. The sound of gong symbolizing the thunder sound, a janggu, a double-headed drum pinched in at the middle, expressing wind sound, and drum sound reminding of floating wind get joined together with made drums symbolizing the earth's crying. And these sounds express the kaleidoscope change of nature and slow but fast, fast but slow percussion rhythm. In kaleidoscope and diverse rhythms and explosive sound, and in dynamic movements of players, anyone can fully feel Korean 'Shin Myung - the state of being in high spirits, enthusiastic and merry' and charm. 악 기 소 개 Modeum-bukkwaeng-gwa-riJingChangguBuk

  5. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 2. TAGO (打鼓) This work, newly created by 'Olssu', is composed mainly of magnificent and powerful drum sounds. 'Beating drums', which uses 'Daebuk'-the biggest drum in Korean drums and 'Tongbuk'-which is possible to play variations, shows the merits of powerful drum sounds as well as awakens the audience's dormant inspiration by deep resonance which Korean drums have. While the first part emphasizes the resonance of drums, the latter half is composed mainly of the players' movements using a gong, a janggu(a double-headed drum pinched in at the middle), a drum which make the performance dynamic and passionate. 악 기 소 개 DaeBuk TongBuk kwaeng-gwa-riChangguBuk

  6. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 3. Speeding Rhythm This work was created in order to overcome the limit of Korean traditional drum sound which gives the acoustic feeling. Speeding Rhythm, using transparent acrylic drums remodelled form of western drums and base drums made from thrown drum canes, is as dynamic and bohemian as the performance of StreetDrum. The players' polished sage manners detailed beating shows another face of 'Olssu'. This work under the banner of 'All beatings are interconnected', in which continual rhythms and movements and beats into an impersonal state are alive, make the audience rush. 악 기 소 개 acrylic drumsbasedrums

  7. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 4. Story As the tiled tells, this work is made by conversations between performers and audiences. With binary time beats which is easy for everyone to move the body and a wit which make the audiences laugh, this work gives fun and sympathy. The audiences feel another catharsis participating in the performance with performers without noticing. 악 기 소 개 masterBase barrelrhythm barrelRoto tomtambourine

  8. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 5. the way of Music This work will make you feel the sublime dynamics from using 16 made drums and 3 'Daebuks'-the biggest drum in Korean drums. Because the sublime comes not only from big scale but also from explosive sound. The sound from 3 'Deabuks' is solemn enough to resonate on the ground, making the perfect harmony with made drum's dynamic movements. Adding 'Taepyongso', which is the only melodical instrument in 'Pungmulnori', this work lifts 'Shin Myung' up to the maximum and make the audiences enjoy the players' great personal techniques and flourish movements. 악 기 소 개 DaeBukModeum-bukkwaeng-gwa-riChangguBuk Taepyongso

  9. Introduction of 'Olssu's works 6. <Pan Gut> <Pan Gut>(Exorcism) is the whole form of Korean traditional performance in which hands are playing instruments, heads are spinning tail of headgear, and bodies are showing dancing movements. It is s a total complex art. <Pan Gut>(Exorcism) reveals Korean taste the most and players' talents so that evokes the exclamations from audiences because of the artistic movements and let them watch, listen and enjoy. As the attached clip shows, <Pan Gut>(Exorcism) is so improvisatory that it is easy to perform with rock bands and jazz bands and harmonize with another genre of music so well. 악 기 소 개 kwaeng-gwa-riJingChanggu Buk Sogo12-feet-long head tail
