  4. Cardiologist • Definition: someone who studies the heart • Example Sentence: • Mark’s cardiologist gave him some blunt advice: get some exercise or risk a heart attack.

  5. Cardiovascular Definition: • Relates to the network by which the heart transports blood through the body. Example Sentence: • There is no doubt that regular exercise and refraining from smoking help to keep our cardiovascular systems healthy.

  6. Epidermis • Definition: The outside layer of the skin • -epi: means “on”, “beside”, “after”, or “around” • Example Sentence: Since the earthworm breathes through its skin, it epidermis must be thin enough to let oxygen pass through.

  10. Prenatal • Definition: occurring before birth • pre- means “before in time, place, or order of importance” (ex – pre- + teen = preteen which means before the age of thirteen) • Example Sentence: Folic acid is important to prenatal health.

  11. Neonatal • Definition: having to do with newborns • neo- means “new” (ex – neo- + classical = neoclassical which means a revival of the classical period in literature and art • Example Sentence: The neonatal unit in a hospital takes care of infants who are born prematurely.
