LINUX at NIKHEF • SUSE 5.0 DESY (ZEUS/HERMES) user group • REDHAT 5.2 CERN related users • First NIKHEF linux users (1997) related with DESY-ZEUS/HERMES preferred SUSE. • NIKHEF standard (1998): REDHAT5.2 • (most activities focussed on CERN) • Version policies of SUSE and REDHAT differ (in the past) • SUSE 6.1 and REDHAT5.2 similar ( no guarantee for future) April 1999 NIKHEF site report Ronald Boontje

Final remarks • Central servers UNIX/NT integration of file service and user administration • Desktop Linux desktop systems with availability of Windows office applications utilise local processing power better then Windows NT desktops in an HEP environment.
