  3. Bike Sharing Systems • Provide bikes for renting to participants • Renting locations set up around a specific region • Small annual membership fee gives unlimited access • Swipe card to receive bike

  5. Aims • Help the environment • Reduce traffic • Stop wasting fuel • Encourage people to bike more • Provide a convenient method of transportation for students

  6. Rationale • Diverse traffic portfolio • RPI is a model for other campuses • Can be established in a short amount of time

  7. Logistics • Start with 200 bikes • 15 renting stations in and around campus • Main Locations: • Dorms • Academic Buildings • Select Locations in Troy

  8. Logistics • Needed for Success: • Mechanics • Contractors • Publicist • Sponsors necessary • Participants • Supporters from the University

  9. Stakeholders • RPI students • City of Troy • University Leaders • Bike Companies • Oil Companies

  10. Possible Barriers • Snow makes biking very difficult • Students could get lazy and not use the bikes • Lack of funding • Theft and vandalism
