  3. Chemical DatabaseSearch Menu Options The Clan Lab Wizard was designed to help law enforcement identify drugs being manufactured from chemicals found or purchased by suspects. To find a chemical, use the Search menu item on the top menu bar. Search for chemicals by technical name, common name or chemical formula.

  4. Chemical Search After selecting a search method, a list box is presented to help you further your search. • The Clan Lab database contains over 130 common clan lab chemicals Type in the first few letters of the chemical name. Double click on chemical name or press the more info button once the chemical is selected.

  5. Chemical Database Chemical information is displayed in the format shown below. Scroll down to see additional data Double click on method or press the button once the method is selected to view method data. Send this information to the printer.

  6. Searching by chemical class In addition to searching for chemicals by name or formula, you can also search by chemical class. Search results show all chemicals identified as catalysts. Press here to look up chemical data.

  7. Searching by drug name The Clan Lab Wizard also lets you view information directly related to specific drugs and drug manufacturing methods. • The database contains information on 28 different drugs.

  8. Method Database When you search by drug name, your results are shown in the format displayed below.. Look up additional methods. Link to equipment database Double click on item or press the look up button to view chemical information. Send this information to the printer.

  9. Method Search You can search the method database on clan lab manufacturing methods. Type in the first few letters of the method name. Double click on the method name or press the more info button after selecting a method.

  10. Method Database Once again, your results will be displayed in the format shown below: Press here to see if method has other known names. Look up other related methods. Links to chemical database. Look up equipment information.

  11. Equipment Database • Search by name • Search by use • Search by picture When you search equipment by name or picture, you must select either laboratory or household equipment. Below is the screen you get when you search by lab equipment. Type in the first few letters to find the equipment Link to household substitutes.

  12. Equipment Database When you select household equipment, the data is displayed in the format below. Type in the first few letters of the household equipment or use the scroll bar to move through the list. View technical equivalent. Content in these boxes change when technical equivalent changes above.

  13. Equipment Database You can also search for equipment based on clan lab use. Identified uses. Related technical and household equipment.

  14. Equipment Database When you view the equipment database by picture, the screen below appears. The system lets you view eight pieces of equiment at a time. Just click on the picture to see detail information. Click on the picture to see more information. View the next 8 pictures.

  15. Equipment Database The information below is shown when you click on a picture. Notice, you can still search for additional equipment by using the pulldown on the left. Click here to see pictures of household substitutes.

  16. Clan Lab Wizard Calculators

  17. Calculators • The Clan Lab Wizard provides you with four different calculators! • Tablet calculator -determines how much of a product is present in tablet form or calculate how much was present based on empty packaging. • Yield calculator - determines the approximate production capacity of a particular lab type based on the amount of chemicals present or to determine the amount of reagents required to produce a certain amount of product. • Volume calculator - calculate approximate volumes for containers and/or the liquids they contain commonly found at clan lab scenes. • Unit conversion calculator - convert between milligrams, grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds and between milliliters (= to cubic centimeters (cc’s)), liters, ounces, pints, quarts and gallons. The Unit Conversion Calculator resides on the desktop.

  18. Unit Conversion Calculator Maximize the Unit Calculator and enter a known quantity in the appropriate field. Press the Calculate button to see the result. Choose solid or liquid measurements.

  19. Unit Conversion Calculator Linking to the Yield Calculator Once an amount has been calculated you can press the Yield button to shortcut into the Yield calculator. Pressing this button brings up this screen. Select the drug you suspect is being produced by double clicking on the drug name or by highlighting the name and pressing the calculate button.

  21. Yield Calculator The yield calculator is activated after choosing the drug and manufacturing method. The weight has already been filled in from the unit conversion calculator. Since we were calculating liquid measurements at the time we pressed the Yield button, the default measurement is liquid. This was picked up from the unit conversion calculator. Number and measurement picked up from the unit conversion calculator. 1. Check which chemical you are measuring. 2. Press the calculate button to determine yield.

  22. Yield Calculator The result…this amount of phenyl-2-propanone will produce 15990 grams of Methamphetamine. The yield calculator also shows the amounts of other chemicals needed to make the product.

  23. Yield and Unit Calculators You can convert the grams to other measurements by entering it into the unit conversion calculator and pressing the calculate button. Additional chemicals used in the formula are listed in this box.

  24. Tablet Calculator The Tablet Calculator can be used to determine how much of a certain precursor (i.e. pseudoephedrine) is present in tablet form or calculate how much was present based on empty packaging. First, enter the milligrams per tablet. Next, enter the number of tablets or the number of tablets per bottle. If applicable, enter the number of containers and the number of cases Press the calculate button to see the results.

  26. Tablet Calculator Linking to Yield Calculator Now, select from the following list a method whose precursors are routinely found in OTC tablet form: Select the method by clicking on the name or by highlighting the name and pressing the continue button.

  27. Tablet Calculator Linking to Yield Calculator The yield amounts are ready to be calculated! Check either the product or chemical you are measuring. Press here to calculate yield.

  28. Volume Calculator This calculator is designed to give approximate volumes for containers and/or the liquids they contain commonly found at clan lab scenes. First, click on the shape which most closely resembles the container.

  29. Volume Calculator Measure your container and enter the measurements in the form below. Press the calculate button to calculate total volume.

  30. Clan Lab Wizard Safety

  31. Safety Information The Clan Lab Wizard provides some general safety information to help law enforcement and hazmat responders when dealing with clan labs. • List and description of several common safety acronyms • Chemical protective gloves and suit recommendations • Definition and requirements of Level B and Level C protection.

  32. Safety Information Selecting this option brings up a short list of abbreviations commonly found in references containing safety and/or exposure data. Click on the abbreviation to view related data.

  33. Safety Information Selecting the glove option from the pull-down menu brings up a field which contains performance data for various glove types tested against selected chemicals in the database. Click on the chemical to view glove performance recommendations..

  34. Safety Information Selecting the suit option from the pull-down menu brings up performance data for various chemical garment types tested against selected chemicals in the database. Click on the chemical to view suit performance recommendations..

  35. Safety Information Selecting Level B or Level C definitions and requirements brings up a s screen that shows the definition and requirements of Level B\Level C protection.
