  2. Objective The purpose of this presentation is to expose the Tunisian experience concerning the scope and form of disseminating data of the General Population and Housing Census 2004 (GPHC)

Few words about the GPHC in Tunisia • The GPHC is exhaustively and concern the population (individual, household) and housing. • The periodicity of the GPHC in Tunisia is ten (10) years. • Since the independence in 1956, Tunisia has produced five (5) GPHC: • The first GPHC was in 1966. • The last GPHC is carried out in 2004. • The next GPHC is scheduled for 2014.

  5. Few words about the GPHC in Tunisia • Census operations took place in four phases: • The preparatory phase • The Pre-enumeration • The enumeration • The data processing and dissemination of results

Few words about the GPHC in Tunisia • The preparatory phase : • The preparation of the cartographic documentation • The preparation of methodology and technical documents for pre-enumeration phase. • The Pre-enumeration : • Delimit of the municipalities, cities and sectors on the ground and on maps, • Proceed to sweep these units to make a first evaluation of the number of local, housing and households.

Few words about the GPHC in Tunisia • The enumeration : • Collecting detailed statistical information on housing, households and individuals. • The data processing and dissemination of results: • The coding and data entry, data processing, analysis and publication of results. • Several publications have emerged giving details on the characteristics of individuals, households and housing.

The scope and form of data dissemination of the GPHC 2004 • The dissemination of the census data is diversified according to the media of dissemination, the data presentation, the potential users and the data level details. • I will approach this subject basing on the dissemination media as a beginning point to explain the other dissemination elements.

The scope and form of data dissemination of the GPHC 2004Dissemination mediaAccess Center to the Individual Data (ACID) • The reasons for the creation of the center • Researchers have always wanted access to individual information. • The researchers applications are sometimes in conflict with the preservation of the confidentiality of the data. • Setting up a procedure allowing a compromise between the users needs for individual data and the guarantee of statistical confidentiality.

The scope and form of data dissemination of the GPHC 2004Conclusion Compared to previous censuses, the dissemination of Census 2004 is characterized by: • The detailed level of information on finer geographical units and the individual data. • The cartographic dissemination of certain socio-economic indicators. • The dissemination on the Website.
