  6. West Foundation • West Foundation funds special requests to the College of Education and to WFISD. • Requests are submitted in the summer and awarded in the fall. • Last three awards ranged from $75,000-$150,000 • Technology, Scholarship, Travel, Stipends, Special Projects.

Changes in Place to Reduce Costs • Reduced to two departments (have been using an interim chair for two years) • Combined positions (NCATE Coordinator, Field Experience Coordinator, Certification Officer) • Reduced number of administrative assistant and created an academic advisor => increased accuracy in degree completion and increased time available to faculty • Use campus staff as adjunct at no cost or shared cost • Other? Special Item Requests • Texas Education Agency requires EPP’s to conduct interviews for admission into programs. • Training with Haberman Star Teacher Interview minimum of 30 faculty/administrators $12,000 • Replace observation room equipment • Current equipment was bought during the remodel of Ferguson in 1984 • Operates on VHS which can no longer be purchased and not all machines work • $50,000

Salary and Faculty Reductions • In 2010-2011, the WCOE had 1 Dean, 3 admin assistant, 25 faculty, and one part-time certification officer/advisor. • Total salary and benefits was $2,004,277. • 2011-2012, the WCOE had 25 faculty, plus 3 administrative assistants, 1 full time advisor, one part-time certification officer/advisor. • Total salary and benefits is $1,949,486. • 2012-2013, the WCOE has 23 faculty, plus 3 administrative assistants, 1 full time advisor, one part-time certification officer/advisor. • Total salary and benefits $1,745,230. • 2013-2014, the WCOE will have 21 faculty, 2 administrative assistants, 1 full time advisor, 1 part time advisor and a Director of Certification and Compliance (11mo. 18 teaching hours) • Total salary and benefits (assuming no changes) $1,774,196. • Several changes have occurred resulting in a reduction of salary and benefits over the last 3 years to $230,081 with a loss of 4 faculty members faculty.

Losing Capacity • We still have to complete the same amount and type of work as we did when we had more faculty • Same number of accreditation reports, same classes, same tenure and promotion expectations. • Dean and two department chairs will share one administrative assistant (part time person for accounting) • Increase in class size • Graduate classes with 20-25 students • Undergraduate PDS classes with 25 students • 45 hours of instruction + each student must be observed teaching for 1 hour 3-4 times. This adds up to 100 hours of work per semester for one class.
